Nice One is one of the most dynamic artists in Bristol, switching up his font writing with his portraits and landscapes. This hoarding, which he has kind of made his own, is currently hosting this magnificent winter scene, the sort of composition so rarely painted in Bristol or anywhere else for that matter.

The snow, the church, the bare trees and the milky sky offer a taste of a classic English winter landscape. The trees are particularly evocative of a cold winter’s day. The artist has included his letters Nice One in orange and only partially present, a trademark mechanism he uses. I am rather pleased that the colours of the sky in his piece are mirrored by the sky in the photograph, demonstrating the relevance and accuracy of his artwork. A winter wonderland.

I am seeing more and more work by Dasco, but I think I have only ever posted one piece by this artist before. I have quite a few in my archive, and I think I’ll have to dig them out and post them, because pretty much everything I have seen is really very good. I think that my lack of Dasco posts is basically down to knowing nothing at all about the artist.

This particular recent piece of graffiti writing from Dasco in Dean Lane is absolutely masterful. The more I look at and study it the better it seems to get. Using the tried and tested black, white and red colour combination (Decay would approve) Dasco has crafted a beautiful and stylish font, elaborate and fancy without being precious. I need to find out more about this great graffiti writer.

I recently found out, via social media, that Rezwonk is a reasonably new citizen of Bristol having originally come from Devon. This would explain why his work has only been on my radar for the last few months. I rather enjoy writing about new artists, because they are not part of the establishment, and everyone else knows as much or as little about them as I do. Sometimes it can feel a little intimidating when reporting on the activities and artwork of some of the more established folk.

This piece went up about a week or so after his previous piece on this spot, which got bombed almost imediately. I think it demonstrated what a brilliant artist Rezwonk is. His lettering in different fonts is outstanding and he has a real knack for picking out the right background designs, colours and tone to set off the writing. It feels like a very designed approach, but one that works extremely well on the streets. Looking forward to seeing so much more from this fine artist.
