4748. Dean Lane skate park (532)

The starburst of pieces by Logoe on his most recent visit to Bristol, are a welcome injection of diversity for our walls, and this time he has spread his wings, hitting more spots than usual, including this ramp in the Dean Lane skate park.

I scarcely need to describe the writing, or indeed the typical decoration that goes with it, other than perhaps to highlight the fine colour selection of gold letters on a pink background festooned with pink, yellow, grey and purple oval dots. He includes a nice shout-out to TES, Haka and Silent Hobo, none of whom, I assume, were available to paint with him on this visit.

Daz Cat, M32 Spot, Bristol, October 2022

It would seem that after a rather dormant spell over the summer, Daz Cat is becoming a little more active again, and his pieces are definitely moving more in the direction of narratives than straightforward portraits of cats and dogs.

In this column piece, under the M32, a cat, with a fox curled up on its head is holding a little dog and is standing next to a chicken with a frog on its head. Don’t ask what the story here is, I wouldn’t know where to begin. I prefer to enjoy the spectacle and the elements that make it up. Another fabulous us piece from Daz Cat.

4746. Dean Lane skate park (531)

Soker is painting more often and that can only be a good thing. His quality always stands out and he really is one of the godfathers of the Bristol street art scene.

This is a piece of pure beauty. Letters in two main colours and several shades interlock in a way that flows and is so easy on the eye. With some spotty details and drip features, this is a fine example of what outstanding graffiti writing can look like.

Alex Lucas, St Andrews Road, Bristol, October 2022

I don’t often go to this part of Montpelier, but I had been to the Italian delicatessen in Picton Street a couple of weeks ago and decided to go a little wander. I was rewarded by finding this very recently completed mural by Alex Lucas, and what a beauty it is.

I think that this wall was very much off the radar in the street art community, as the first I saw of it on social media, was a few days later from Alex Lucas herself, which made me think that I must have been there very shortly after completion and scaffolding removal. This is a classic piece of Lucas artwork, with a fabulous design of two birds with a floral accompaniment. This is truly magnificent stuff. It won’t be long before every building in Montpelier will be adorned with one of her works.

DNT, M32 roundabout, Bristol, October 2022

I got super-lucky a couple of weeks ago when I bumped into DNT just as he was finishing off this outstanding piece just outside the M32 roundabout. I didn’t recognise him or his work at first, until we started chatting. What an absolute pleasure it was to meet him, and although I had met him before, he didn’t recognise me. I like his work very much, and it was a privilege to be there just as he was wrapping up.

The piece, on the side of a food wagon, features a woman in an elaborate headdress with an Aztec or Mayan feel about her. It is an outstanding and vibrant piece, beautifully designed and executed, and knowing who it is by after the event, so obviously a DNT work. Superb work and a red-letter day.

4743. M32 Spot (146)

It is a joyful thing when Logoe comes to town, because he doesn’t imply come and paint one piece, oh no, he absolutely sweats it out with several pieces over a weekend. These blitzes have become a bit of a highlight or interruption in the steady flow of new work that we see every week in the city.

This is the first of several wonderful pieces of graffiti writing by Logoe that I will be sharing over the next month or so, all painted over one weekend. Logoe has painted a real beauty of one of my favourite walls, showcasing his distinctive thin script letters spelling out his name in beautifully complementary colours, finished with a horizontal splash of little oval dots running through the whole piece. It is so good that he keeps returning to Bristol to share his talent with us all.

4742. Hepburn Road (19)

Kid Krishna, Hepburn Road, Bristol, October 2022

I rarely venture down ‘crack alley’ these days, as I don’t walk into the office often, since lockdown, meaning that there are some spots that I have neglected. This nice one from Kid Krishna is at the top end of the alley where it opens out into Stokes Croft.

Kid Krishna’s style is fairly unique, and it is not difficult to identify his work. His letters are slim and closely packed, and I am still getting my ‘eye in’ with regard to what his writing says. He has worked a nice transition from orange to light blue, two colours that aren’t natural bedfellows, but it seems to work here. I have many more pieces from Kid Krishna to share… watch this space.

Jody and Dibz, Sparke Evans Park, Bristol, September 2022

Sparke Evans Park plays host to so many stunning collaborations, something that has developed in recent years, and I think it is favoured by artists because there isn’t much tagging and pieces tend to stay intact for a while. I have heard that the police are showing a little interest in the spot, and that spraying isn’t quite as straightforward as it has been historically.

This pairing of Jody and Dibz has turned up a very special and captivating wall. The portrait of Goldie is by Jody, and absolutely captures the artist perfectly. It is interesting to see how Goldie is becoming quite a strong influence on the Bristol scene at the moment.

The writing from Dibz is, as you would expect, close to perfection. I am not entirely spectra in what the letters spell out, but I am sure that Paul H will be able to help me with this.

4740. Elton Street (12)

Tanith Gould, Elton Street, Bristol, September 2022

Tanith Gould was one of four female artists who painted the bill boards on Elton Street recently, adopting the paint jam colours and creating this imaginative portrait piece.

I am not entirely certain what this thoughtful piece is about, but there is a story here, and the imagery is impactful. This might be the most accomplished piece I have seen from Tanith Gould, and she has certainly earned her place in this prestigious ‘outdoor gallery’

Creamylines, M32 Spot, Bristol, September 2022

By the time you read this I will be wetting a line on the south coast of Cornwall not far from Fowey, and this post is short because I need to get up, have breakfast and prepare my fishing gear that hasn’t seen any action for a long while.

Creamylines hit this spot hard about three weeks ago, and this is the second of his pieces from that session. Painted in the naive style, this piece is another landscape piece filled with hills and people and topped off with a classic sun and sun-rays painted the way we used to paint them in School. You might also spot a couple of concealed faces too. Great work and so different to what we are used to seeing.
