Klashwhensober, Peel Street Green, Bristol, September 2025
I think, that at times, life has been quite unkind to Klashwhensober, and I know he has had his demons to battle with, so it is great to see him back on the streets again. It also looks like he has a little more clarity and concentration in his work.
Klashwhensober, Peel Street Green, Bristol, September 2025
This combination piece has some nice 3D letters spelling SOBER, which are accompanied by a rather sinister little character in green to the right. There is a contrast between his well crafted letters and fills and his rather less precise characters that epitomise his overall style. His work has been worth waiting for, and I hope that he has a settled and stable period going forward.
Klashwhensober, Dean Lane, Bristol, September 2025
Klashwhensober has been missing in action for months, for very good reasons I am sure, and he has returned with a gentle flurry of pieces appearing all around the town, as if he was never absent.
Klashwhensober, Dean Lane, Bristol, September 2025
This is a really nicely crafted piece of graffiti writing, and has a clarity and sense of purpose not always present in Klashwhensober’s work. The letters spell out Sober and contain an interesting selection of colours that shouldn’t really work well together but somehow do. Great to see him back.
Klashwhensober, River Avon, Bristol, December 2024
This is a curious piece by Klashwhensober, painted alongside Sworm on a low wall that supports one of the bridges over the River Avon – a bridge that doesn’t actually lead to anywhere. It looks like this might have been a bit of a dregs piece, because there are a few colours involved, that don’t necessarily complement one another, and the light blue and yellow look rather thin, and perhaps were running out.
Klashwhensober, River Avon, Bristol, December 2024
Klashwhensober has been painting a lot of character/writing combination pieces over the last year, and as a general rule of thumb, the more time he spends on a piece, the better the outcome. While all the design elements are present in this piece, it feels a little rushed and rough around the edges. The character on the left is a bit strange, and slightly divorced in style and colour from the writing. Overall, this is an interesting piece, but not one of Klashwhensober’s finest.
Klashwhensober gets a lot of practice with painting walls, which directly leads to improvements in his work. Over the last few years he has managed to develop his style, which has gradually developed into a sophisticated blend of writing the letters SOBER with animated fills that ooze out from them.
Klashwhensober, Greenbank, Bristol, November 2024
This piece illustrates really clearly how the fill tells its own story, or has its own place, and you could almost imagine a scene unfolding, but you only get to see that scene within the confine of the letters. There is always a lot crammed into Klashwhensober’s work, perhaps an indication of a busy mind. This is a nicely executed and finished piece.
Klashwhensober, M32 roundabout, Bristol, October 2024
Klashwhensober is as busy as ever, and I only tend to post a fraction of the pieces he produces, I expect I’ll need to go back through the archives and do a couple of sweep-ups of his work in due course. Every now and then one of his pieces catches the eye, and this one on the roundabout is one of those.
Klashwhensober, M32 roundabout, Bristol, October 2024
This modest spot is tucked away behind a tree, and isn’t easily seen without looking for it. Klashwhensober has written the word SOBER in ribbon letters, filled skilfully in blue and yellow, with a variety of well-painted patterns and features. There is some menace lurking in the form of clutching hands and fingers wafting from the cloudy background. I think that Klashwhensober’s pieces often indicate a busy and cluttered mind, and it would be interesting to see if he could create a piece of writing that was simpler in structure and could show off his skill as an artist. Unlikely to happen methinks.
Klashwhensober, Brunel Way, Bristol, September 2024
Klashwhensober is consistently one of the most prolific graffiti writers in Bristol, tracing out his SOBER letters wherever he finds a free wall. Some of his pieces are obviously rather hurried while others, like this one are a little bit more considered and tidy.
Klashwhensober, Brunel Way, Bristol, September 2024
The way that Klashwhensober has overwritten the piece underneath is quite clever in that instead of buffing out the wall completely he has created a cloudy covering obscuring it enough to nullify it. The chrome letters are really nicely worked with a tidy two-tone drop shadow and clean black border. Definitely one of Klashwhensober’s better ones.
When you see the title ‘various locations’ you can be fairly sure that the post is likely to feature Bristol’s most prolific graffiti writer, Klashwhensober, and you wouldn’t be wrong. This is a roundup of ‘SOBER’ pieces by the artist from May 2024 – by bunching them together I am able to continue to post other artists’ work, at the expense of not commentating on each of the pieces by Klashwhensober.

You can tell from this mini-gallery, that Klashwhensober has a recognisable style of writing, but what brings out his work as special is the uniqueness of each piece with regard to colours and fill patterns and the occasional accompaniment of a character. What is also clear is that the artist has good days, and less good days when the finishing can appear a little rushed.
I believe that this is the best way to post Klashwhensober’s work without compromising my desire to share the full spectrum of street/graffiti art in Bristol.
Klashwhensober, M32 roundabout, Bristol, March 2024
There is a lot of truth and honesty about Klashwhensober’s work. Sometimes his work can be a little scruffy and rushed, and sometimes it can be glorious, clean tidy and creative. This piece falls into the latter category, and s a general observation, his trajectory is upward and he is producing quite a lot of classy pieces at the moment.
Klashwhensober, M32 roundabout, Bristol, March 2024
The black letters on a blue background, spelling SOBER, are nicely done and complemented with a fine blue drop-shadow and tidy accents and starbursts. The inclusion of a character in the middle of the piece definitely improves the overall look and balances out the piece well. Great work from a still-productive Klashwhensober.
I wasn’t too sure whether to include this Klashwhensober Christmas piece, mainly on the grounds that I find it a little disturbing. I have noticed recently that several pieces have taken a slightly darker turn. The SOBER letters are still bright and vibrant, but the characters are a little on the weird side.
Klashwhensober, Dean Lane, Bristol, December 2023
In this Christmas piece, I think I would run a mile if I saw this Santa by the fireplace. He looks like he might have had a few too many brandies, and his hand gesture is hardly in the Christmas spirit of things. The letters are good with great colours – I’m just not too sure about the character.

When you see the word ‘various’ for the location in the title of this blog post, you can be pretty certain that it will be a post of Klashwhensober’s work. I feel that the only way I can do him justice is to do a round up of his left-overs each month, such is his high productivity rate. Here are some pieces from November.
Klashwhensober, M32 roundabout, Bristol, November 2023
All the pieces spell out SOBER, but you can see simply from first inspection that some are more thought out than others and that the execution can be a little variable, probably reflecting Klashwhensober’s attitude and approach with each piece. Klashwhensober’s general development is steady, but it is not linear… meandering improvement might be a better description.
Klashwhensober, Hepburn Road, Bristol, November 2023
This blue piece is nice enough to look at, and it is clear that it was painted quickly. The paint is thinly spread, which might indicate that it is a bit of a ‘dregs’ piece.
Klashwhensober, Leonard Lane, Bristol, November 2023
Rounding off the quartet of pieces from November is this chrome piece, which is arguably the best of the bunch, painted down in Leonard Lane. There is more of a sharp feel to this one, with some nice little details and ‘dents’ in the lettering. Have no fear, there is still plenty more to come from Klashwhensober.
