3276. M32 roundabout J3 (260)

This rather sweet little collaboration first appeared a couple of weeks ago in mid-October and brings together the talents of CD-TC, Daz Cat and Kool Hand. I’m not too sure if these artists paint under a particular crew name, but they certainly seem to hang out together quite a lot.

On the left is a rather stlised and weird-looking monster-faced character smoking a cigarette, with the white smoke wisping about the place. It is obvious that CD-TC is a talented artist/deigner from the way he has drawn and filled the arm of his character in orange, black and grey – some great shading and highlighting technique there. CD-TC’s characters are appearing more frequently about the place, which can only be a good thing.

In the middle is a wonderful scene painted by Daz Cat of a female (hurrah) cat playing an old gramophone record player. She is winding the handle and the indication of motion is done really well – plenty of movement there. The cat is showing off some fine hair accessories that appear to be coming from her ear and add decorative interest to the piece.

The final part of he collaborative wall is a rather small Orangutan face wearing a cap that we have seen quite a lot of in recent months from Kool Hand. This is, I suppose, a king of mega-tag that Kool Hand is using to hone his skills, but a great framework that just rolls off the spraycan easily.

A refreshing collaboraion.

3198. St Werburghs tunnel (191)

This is a rather nice collaboration from Kool Hand and Slakarts. I don’t think I have seen anything from the latter for a very long time, but I am truly glad to see something new from him. Kool Hand as you know has been pretty busy of late.

On the left is a familiar sight to regular readers of Natural Adventures, it is of course a capped orangutan, although this time the fills have developed from solid orange to a blended mix of colours, giving a rather nice textured effect.

To the right is a very nice and long-overdue piece from Slakarts. His faces usually have a symmetry about them and this one certainly conforms to that. Great colours and lovely clean lines separating out the solid fills. This is a very nice piece indeed from Slakarts.

3167. Purdown HAA Battery (10)

The coronavirus pandemic has provided inspiration for a great many street artists this year, whether characterising the virus itself as in this example from Kool Hand or reflecting the great work of the NHS and other key workers, the common enemy has got the creative juices flowing.

This rather different piece from Kool Hand Depicts the nasty red virus coming under attack from numerous sharp objects and weapons, presumably in an attempt to kill it off. There is a message for all, ‘keep safe people’ which, following today’s news that new cases in the UK are increasing exponentially, is as relevant now as it was when it was written.

Keep safe people.

3089. Brunel Way bridge (51)

This is the third recent Kool Hand orangutan piece that I have seen and once again he is branching out into the use of patterned fills rather than the solid ones that have been such a central part of his past work.

The character’s face has been filled with what looks like an army print camouflage effect, but is probably just a random green and white pattern. I am enjoying watching Kool Hand adding a layer of sophistication to his pieces.

3055. M32 Cycle path (65)

Kool Hand is at it again, this time on the M32 cycle path, with his colourful Orangutan. This piece is from a few short weeks ago and was sprayed alongside painting pal Daz Cat. It is a near copy of one he painted in Dean Land and which I posted recently.

As I pointed out with the Dean Lane version, Kool Hand is experimenting with decorated fills, which is interesting to see, because his USP to date has been to adopt clean solid fills for his characters. I am going to try and see another of his recent pieces later on today that he painted recently. Great to see his work developing.

3027. Dean Lane skate park (328)

The turnover in Dean Lane is very high at the moment and if you blink, you will miss things and over the last few weeks I have certainly missed quite a bit here and elsewhere. Fortunately I was in the fight place at the right time to find this nice piece from Kool Hand.

Regular readers will probably recognise this orange orangutan(?) character that seems to be a particular favourite of Kool Hand. As part of his development as an artist, he has added some squiggle fills to what would normally be a solid fill. These squiggles give the face more depth and character and it looks like a bit of practise using new techniques to me, which is great to see.

2931. M32 Spot (67)

This is another piece from a little while ago on a column under the M32 by Kool Hand. This artist has done a few pieces at this M32 spot in recent years, and often pairs up with Daz Cat for his sessions.

Kool Hand has created a rather dashing crocodile kitted out with hoodie and trainers and clasping a spray can in his tail. I like the way Kool Hand works, with strong outlines and clean solid fills. A nice piece.

2696. St Werburghs tunnel (132)

Already Kool Hand has appeared in Natural Adventures twice in 2020. Perhaps he has had some time off, and what better way to fill time than with a bit of spray art? This was the left hand side of a collaborative paint with Daz Cat (already posted), but merits an entry of its own.

The piece brings together the two elements we often see from Kool Hand, some writing and a character. It is less often that we see both together. The cartoon style character is nicely drafted and simply filled. I’m not too sure what the Adidas bag is, but I think it might be a weed pouch that every young man in Bristol seems to carry over their shoulder these days.

2666. M32 Cycle path (46)

On a wall that is predominantly used for graffiti writing it was great to see this rather unusual collaborative mural appear recently by Kool Hand and Conrico. If I am honest I have absolutely no idea at all what is going on in the piece but when Conrico is involved, there is usually a story of some sort behind the piece.

Kool Hand, M32 cycle path, Bristol, December 2019

On the left is a character by Kool Hand who I would more commonly associate with painting animals such as crocodiles or orangutans, but the solid fill and clearly defined outlines give this piece away as being by Kool Hand.

Conrico, M32 cycle path, Bristol, December 2019

The rest of the piece seems to be made up of floating islands, two of which appear to be at war with one another. Unfathomable, but original and interesting. I am a big fan of Conrico’s work and am enjoying finding pieces by him dotted all over the place. More to come in a day or two.

2374. M32 roundabout J3 (158)

It is always most satisfying to witness great collaborative partnerships, and in Bristol there are quite a few of these, for example; SledOne and Smak, Laic217 and Cort, Rezwonk and Decay, Kid Crayon and SPzero76 and here we have another pairing who seem to enjoy each other’s company, Kool Hand and Daz Cat.

Kool Hand, M32 roundabout, Bristol, July 2019
Kool Hand, M32 roundabout, Bristol, July 2019

Kool Hand is not as prolific as I would like him to be so I don’t get to see too much of his work. What I like about his style is the clean lines and solid fills and of course the subject of his pieces which pretty much always seem to be animal-related. In this piece a crocodile is spraying the initials KH, and why not.

Daz Cat, M32 roundabout, Bristol, July 2019
Daz Cat, M32 roundabout, Bristol, July 2019

Daz Cat is another artist whose work I’d like to see a lot more of. Unusually, in this piece we see the full body of a cat, fully clothed with a neckerchief, lilac shirt and green trousers. The cat seems to be in a meditative pose, and looks a lot gentler than some of the cats Daz Cat paints. A nice collaboration from this pair at the M32 roundabout.
