Happy 4 July to all those for whom it is a holiday. Here in the UK it is just another day, but it is Thursday, and that means doors.
I am being a little lazy this week using archive material to bring you the same door in Moon Street, one of my favourite street/graffiti art spots, but with different looks over the last few years – I might do this with a few more graffiti doors when I am pushed for new content.
With apologies to regulars who might have seen most of these images before.

Gloopy dayglow acid house skeleton courtesy of Laic217. Is there any more to say about this wonderful piece in St Werburghs tunnel? Well as it happens there probably is…for example I rather like the way he has made his name stand out as if raised from the wall by the skilful application of light and dark shading on the edges of the letters – great technique.
I feel like I haven’t seen much of his work lately and I know I have missed several pieces, but it is always nice to catch one when in the right place at the right time. Where will I find the spray can skeleton next?
Wilder street is home to some of the best walls in Bristol, but the turnover here is not as high as in other parts of Bristol. I think it is because some of the walls are curated and pieces left on show for longer.
This is an interesting work by Laic217, who appears to have dropped his activity of late. I expect it is better viewed through 3D glasses, although I am never quite sure if artwork like this is done simply to give the effect of a 3D piece or if they actually work as well.
I love the way his signature is cleverly worked into the elbow of the skeleton character. Now where are those cardboard glasses?
Lately it appears that Laic217 has dedicated a huge amount of time to his street art, with pieces popping up all over the place. I am really pleased to see it since I have a soft-spot for his work. Rather excitingly he has just started an Instagram account, which will make it easier to track down his pieces, however there is no biography and he continues to keep himself to himself.
His works tend to take two forms, the wildstyle writing or burner with a character incorporated, or an image like this one, often demonstrating some kind of distortion…melting or in this example cracked glass (frequently there is a nod to drugs and acid-house music). All the time his work is improving, his concepts developing and the artwork becoming more skilled.
I think Laic217 tends to spray solo, and unusually for a Bristol graffiti artist, will work in any of the common sites north and south of the river. I am not certain that he belongs to any crew, and I am not aware of any collaborations to date. I am enjoying the journey watching his work unfold. And hey…anyone notice the Feoflip to the left?
This guy just gets better and better. It has been really interesting watching how Laic217’s work has developed over the last eighteen months or so, and being able to pick up on some of his motifs and styles.
In my view, this is his best piece of wildstyle writing to date, and the purple cat sets it off brilliantly. I love the fish bone logo on his jacket. The inclusion of the brick wall adds texture, and has been used in some of his previous works.
It looks like Laic217 spent a bit more time on this piece, and the clean finish indicates that it was time well spent. It has been a very busy period for the artist, and I have a couple more recent pieces to post soon. Really great stuff from a rising star.
This is a bright and cheerful piece from back in August by Laic 217. Remember, it was warm and sunny then. This nice bit of writing follows the format favoured by Laic 217, that is, to write his name and add a feature, normally a face or figure.
Of course he also sprays the acid house melting faces, which I have featured on these pages before and which I rather like. I think I may have mentioned it before, but Laic 217 is one of those artists whose work can be found at most of the hotspots around the City. Many others tend to restrict their work to specific areas.
There is always more to come from this quiet talent.
Laic 217 is rather a prolific artist in Bristol and this is one of his pieces from earlier this year. It seems I can hardly look anywhere and not see one of his works. As I write this, I found another of his pieces in St Werberghs Tunnel today which I’ll get round to writing about sometime.
Here he has collaborated with Cort, about whom I know absolutely nothing, so if anyone has something to add about him, please let me know. As is often seen with Laic 217’s work, he has sprayed his name and a character alongside. The character bears all the branding and look of acid house.
I have said many times in my posts, that this kind of work is what Bristol is all about and Laic 217 is one of those rare artists who seems to spray all around the City…here in Stokes Croft, at Deaners, at the M32 and in St Werberghs. Just gotta like him.
