691. Wilder Street (13)

When Meds and Peal visited Bristol a little while back they teamed up with several Bristol artists to work on some stunning collaborations. This is a large wall on Wilder Street that had previously played host to a fine collaboration between Deamze, Voyder and Soker. It is a popular wall, which I believe needs permission from the owners to be painted. Rather than interrupt the images with short paragraphs of text, I thought on this occasion I would simply let the pictures do the talking. Along with Meds and Peal, this piece was sprayed by Sled One, Ments and Epok. Please don’t ask who did what…it could take a while to unpick.

669. M32 Roundabout J3 (33)

This is an extraordinary collaboration between two Leeds-based artists Meds (from the Uprising Crew) and Peal (from the Bad Taste Krew) and Bristol-based Ments. It is a stunning work, and what I don’t get is how they all manage to stick to the style and stay ‘on message’ if there is such a thing in graffiti art.

The colour selections are terrific and in line with many of the other pieces that were sprayed at the same time on this long wall. I can definitely see the Ments influences on this piece, but as I am not familiar with the other two artists, it is hard to know who influenced what. The piece says ZORDS, although I’m afraid my ignorance shines through at this point as I have no idea what Zords is.

It is always great to see the work of visiting artists on the streets of Bristol, especially having a great time with a collaboration like this. They also sprayed another large wall in Wilder Street, probably on the same trip, which I will feature soon. Great work.

601. M32 Cycle path (3)

When I saw this recently, in an area I don’t visit often, I wasn’t soo sure who it was by. The next day I saw it on Instagram, posted by its maker, Ments. I guess that since he had just posted it, it was probably relatively new.

I do like the work of Ments very much. His colours are always complementary and his wildstyle writing has a very free and organic look to it, quite unlike many of his counterparts in Bristol.

This was not easy to photograph, it is sited in a narrow lane, and there was a lot of glare on the wall, Some things I guess are just meant to be seen in the flesh.

 

463. Dean Lane skate park (23)

There are many things I love about photographing street/graffiti art and one of them is that I am constantly discovering new (to me) artists. Although he is well established, I have only recently registered the utterly incredible Ments.

His unusual organic style of wildstyle writing is really impressive and so different from most of the other writers in Bristol. On his Instagram feed, Ments said of this, “wasn’t keen on  this one but it’s all fun and games”. If only I had a tenth of his artistic talent.

453. M32 Roundabout J3 (18)

Recently I have become much more aware of the extraordinary works by Ments. His works recently have often been side by side with one of Bristol’s brightest young street artists, Sled One. I don’t know too much about Ments, but know that I really like his work.

His wildstyle writing has a wonderful organic feel to it…forget about straight lines and geometry, this stuff looks like weird kinds of biological matter under a microscope. The letters spell out Ments in fabulous colours and shapes.

I have more works by Ments and will post them soon, but I hope with a little more about the artist himself. This stuff is pretty awesome, I think.
