A week or two back there was an EAT/DoOrDie paint jam on Stapleton Road, alongside the M32 motorway, with an X-Men theme. This piece, by SPZero76 is one of the three painted that day.SPZero76 has a special place in Natural Adventures because he was one of the first regular artists that I photographed and wrote about ten years ago. Although he used to paint more often then, his pieces are always outstanding.

The raccoons, creatures that appear in most of SPZero76’s cartoon-style work, are playing out the parts of Wolverine with its claw hand and Cyclops, who is wearing 3D specs instead of his special visor – a nice twist. An incredible scene unfolds in such illustrative detail. This is a truly fabulous piece of cartoon character street art.

4549. Dean Lane skate park (505)

Anyone who reads these posts regularly will know that I consider Dibz to be one of the best wildstyle writers, in Bristol and indeed in the country. In this outstanding piece in Dean Lane he has combined his talents with the elusive Ulow, who treats us to his talents from time to time.

The letters, in a dazzling transition from yellow to dark red, spell out DIBZ. The letters are so clean and crisp, and the fades between shades so seamless, there are few words that can describe the expertise on show. Just to cap it all, the pink highlights at the bottom of some of the letters create the most fantastic 3D effect of reflected light. Just brilliant.

The character, I am guessing it is Wolverine, is by Ulow, and demonstrates his fantastic shading skills that give his pieces a soft, rounded appearance, almost organic. Ulow is definitely an artist whose street art work I’d like to see more of.

2990. St George skate park (10)

Another artist who has been really busy lately is John D’oh whose running commentary on all aspects of the coronavirus epidemic has given us a record of events through the medium of street art. This way of capturing contemporary events has been a major aspect of art through the ages, and although much of the art is ephemeral some remains and helps to tell future generations what happened in the past and where they came from. John D’oh’s stories are important ones to tell.

This lovely stencil on the side of a ramp at St George skate park, celebrates the fabulous and unrelenting hard work of NHS workers through the pandemic with more than a little nod to Wolverine of X-Men fame. Slightly sinister, slightly edgy but with a great heart. A nice piece from John D’oh.
