Short break

Tying up loose ends

just a bit demob-happy

sing so long suckers.

Home at work

Unusual sound

baby cries in the office

to mixed reactions

a human reminder in

a sterile environment.

Distracted

Planning for Monday

seriously interferes

with weekend downtime.

Office view

Here sit I each day

overlooking the treetops

dreaming of freedom.

This Haiku started off as something rather different, but I didn’t like it – I include it below just to demonstrate the transition of what I wanted to convey, but couldn’t in the first form.

It’s a privilege

to sit at canopy height

and observe the birds.

Occupation

Large windows offer

fleeting moments of escape,

then it’s back to work.

Prisoner cell (phone)

I’m surgically

attached to my headset and

want to leave the call.

Old timer

I count them in and

then I count them out; I am

an ever-present.

Late in the office

Others have gone home;

shut the door on your way out

I think to myself.

Screen shot

Bright white stripes disrupt

flat screen technology; sun

peeping through the blinds.

State employment

Painting by numbers,

a perfunctory living

and passion stifled.
