Stowaway could have been a more apt word. Passenger sounds more like the little critter was invited.
I need to clarify that I did not mean to criticize your nice haiku, rather to add a seafaring word for some people we encountered from time to time when sailing in Asia.

Just on his neck. He went to Ashton Court the day before and there are deer there… ticks are a common hazard.
