7076. Brunel Way (325)

This is something the same, but also a little different from Scrapyardspec under Brunel Way. He has used a buffed pillar (a crazy scheme devised by Bristol City Council to eradicate graffiti, which only serves to create nice clean new ‘canvasses’) to act as a solid backdrop to one of his wobbly characters.

Instead of filling the piece with colour, like all of his other pieces, he has gone for a simple white fill which works so well against the grey. The piece is clean and almost looks like a giant sticker, rather than a painted piece. Scrapyardspec has injected some great creativity into his standard character.

Recently, almost the entire wall at Sparke Evans Park, and it is a long wall, was filled with tribute pieces to Paroe (or Paro).  I know little about Paroe (Oliver Andrews), but it would seem from the huge turnout and the large number of tribute pieces all over Bristol, that he was well-known and much loved. This is one of those tribute pieces, by Vesar.

I have only recently been posting pieces by Vesar, despite having many of his pieces in my archive, and I am certainly noticing them much more when I go out on my walks. This is a beautifully presented piece with skilfully worked red fills and a stunning green splash behind. A worthy tribute piece.

7074. St Werburghs tunnel (Ejits)

A short while back, Kid Crayon organised a paint jam for Frazzled magazine and assembled a fine line-up of artists, including Ejits. There is something very charming about her stylised cartoon characters, which tend to have a cheeky side to their personality.

This is a wonderful eye-catching cat, beautifully illustrated and perfectly finished. There is two-tone texture in the cat’s face and a strong dark pink border to keep everything neat and tidy.  I am an admirer of her work, and would love to see (find) more of it on our streets.

RA, Brunel Way, Bristol, July 2025

This piece is right up my street, a beautifully painted beetle in striking colours, by an artist I don’t know and whose name I have guessed at as RA. This was one of a few pieces painted in a single session, which makes me think the artist was a visitor, passing through.

I don’t know what technique was used to paint the piece, but at a guess I would say it was a stencil over a green background, which has been augmented with some Posca pen detail. The end result is unique and rather special. RA is an artist I’d really like to find more information on. Love this piece.

7072. Knowle West (3)

Daz Cat, Knowle West, Bristol, July 2025
Daz Cat, Knowle West, Bristol, July 2025

The first piece that you see as you approach this Knowle West spot is a wonderful combination work by Daz Cat, who has been flirting with mixing his famous cat characters with portrait pieces, and the result is something quite ‘dazzling’.

The portrait of a woman with a blue face is sandwiched between two charming orange cats, it looks like a boy and girl cat. What is also great to see is the iconic Clifton suspension bridge making it into the piece, something that a uniquely Bristol kind of thing to do. Note to self: do a special gallery post on Clifton suspension bridge pieces. Just thinking about it… it is odd that it is always referred to as the Clifton suspension bridge, and rarely, if ever, as the Clifton bridge. Wonderful work from Daz Cat.

7071. River Avon (87)

Trafficity, River Avon, Bristol, July 2025
Trafficity, River Avon, Bristol, July 2025

The name of the game in Trafficity’s work is consistency. His basic design of the letters ZIOS, with its near symmetry, hardly changes from piece to piece, with only the colours and peripheral decorations that vary. He must be able to paint this piece with his eyes shut.

There is a sharp contrast between the upper yellow section and light-blue lower section of the letters, perhaps amplified by the dark background. Not my favourite colour combination, but it seems to work well. I do sometimes wonder what Trafficity’s work would look like if he went for some different letters or new designs, but maybe it would disrupt the ‘brand’. Who knows?

7070. Knowle West (2)

Mind 49 and Wxttsart, Knowle West, Bristol, July 2025
Mind 49 and Wxttsart, Knowle West, Bristol, July 2025

I believe that it was Mind 49 who was responsible for organising this paint jam in a sleepy close in Knowle West, and he certainly managed to assemble some great talent to decorate these suburban walls. In this amazing portrait piece he has collaborated with Wxttsart (Milk), although it is difficult to know which bits the latter contributed to, perhaps the sign of a true collaboration.

The portrait itself is clearly the work of Mind 49, whose subjects are often in natural poses, as if caught off-guard, and their faces often partially obscured, in this case with a hat and sunglasses. Pure class is how I would describe the piece. I believe that Wxttsart’s contribution is to the right-hand side, with the abstract designs and ‘rips’ through the piece. Certainly the end result is a winning combination, and a stunning addition to the house.

7069. Brunel Way (323)

Zinso, Brunel Way, Bristol, July 2025
Zinso, Brunel Way, Bristol, July 2025

This is the third and final part of Zinso’s practice production, in which he took advantage of a white buffed wall to produce six pieces of writing alongside each other. This third pairing has one small signature piece and a larger piece alongside it. He also gives a little insight into this wall with the words ‘dead cans done’ which suggests that this whole wall was a bit of a dregs clear out.

The small bubble writing isn’t too different from his other small pieces, and has some very nice drips. The larger piece in red and pink, is presented in a less compressed form, with each letter being discrete from the others, with only a few small overlaps. Overall, this wall was a great effort and showcase from Zinso.

7068. Dean Lane skate park (853)

I get the feeling that Scrapyardspec might have moved to or near Bristol, or he is visiting more often these days, because barely a week goes by when I don’t discover a new piece by him.

Scrapyardspec, Dean Lane, Bristol, July 2025

This googly-eyed character is nestled neatly on the side of one of the ramps in the Dean Lane skate park, known locally as The Deaner. Perhaps the most notable thing about this piece is the green wibbly tongue, which I would estimate appears in about half of all his character pieces.
