Noise, Dean Lane, Bristol, September 2024

One of the more productive writers in Bristol over the past year has been Noise, whether painting alone or collaborating. Noise has settled into the Bristol scene seamlessly and feels like part of the furniture, even though I only really became aware of his work in the summer of 2023.

Noise generally paints quite large, expansive letters, and this time he has had to squeeze his letters into a fairly compressed spot and has managed pretty well. The fills in the letters are worth a closer look, with the lower fills looking like greeny-blue clouds and the upper fills cold and frosty icicles. Definitely time for a Noise gallery.

Fade and Dibz, Dean Lane, Bristol, August 2024

You might have seen several references in the past to World Wall Stylers, and wondered what it is all about. Essentially, it is a global street art collaboration event, organised through Instagram, setting a theme which artists can adopt, paint and photograph, tagging @worldwallstylers in their own Instagram feeds. It is a way of showing off your style to a large urban art community and observing other artist’s impressions on the same theme. This month is chapter 16 of World Wall Stylers and the theme is the film ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’.

Fade and Dibz have collaborated in this Roger Rabbit piece in what I would call a fusion collaboration where both artists will have contributed to all parts of the piece, in spite of the letters spelling out FADE. The character in this piece was called Smart Guy, one of five weasel characters belonging to the Toon Patrol. Brilliant work from the pair and a prompt to dig out the movie and re-watch it sometime.

Katie Fishlock, Dean Lane, Bristol, August 2024

Katie Fishlock produces small, bold and really impactful pieces, and although she doesn’t create street art work all that often, you certainly know when she has produced a new piece – you generally can’t miss them.

This bright piece is on one of the ramps at Dean Lane skate park, a spot she has favoured before. The piece is more of a statement stamp than anything else. It says ‘Thirsty’ and there is a drop of water landing between bright red lips of a horizontal face profile. Impactful and mildly sensual. Great work from Katie Fishlock.

Jevoissoul, Dean Lane, Bristol, August 2024

Jevoissoul told me when I first met him that he would be hitting the streets of Bristol hard, and he has lived up to his work. Barely a week goes by without another of his distinctive character pieces appearing at one of the hot spots around the city. His character is sometimes accompanied by the word SLOW in combination pieces like this one.

Sometimes Jevoissoul’s work can be a little ragged, but this combination piece is pretty tight and nicely filled and finished, indeed it might be one of his best to date. I have a whole raft of his work that I haven’t yet posted and think I might have to do a small collection post at some point, just to catch up, something I have said about many of our most prolific artists numerous times. This magnificent beast by Dibz is the perfect example of tight wildstyle graffiti writing. The piece will have been thought out carefully and probably sketched out in a black book before being painted. This is graffiti art at its absolute best, by one of the best writers in Bristol and probably the country.

The piece spells out YUKI and is a tribute for Goldie and his partner Mika and their baby Yuki. I had to do a little bit of detective work to find all that out, but got there in the end. I cannot think of a finer thing than to have a piece of art dedicated to you. Lovely piece.

Dibz and Fade, Dean Lane, Bristol, August 2024

Fade and Dibz need no introduction here given that I have posted dozens of their collaborations already on Natural Adventures this year. Their productivity is admirable and the quality of their work, awesome.

This collaboration centres on the theme of 1980s arcade game Pac-Man, but adopts a modern version of the little yellow character. The yellow dots in the maze are reproduced, although I am a little surprised not to see the incorporation of the four ghosts. Fade has split his letters into two colour assemblages, perhaps adding a little variety.

Dibz has also incorporated the maze element as his background and cleverly incorporated an ‘on-brand’ Pac-Man FUA (From up above). The transition of colour fill in Dibz’ letters is outstanding, and the fine yellow highlights help the letters to pop. Magnificent work from the duo.

Trafficity, Dean Lane, Bristol, August 2024

Trafficity has become the complete master of his own creation. His form of letters, spelling ZIOM barely deviates from one piece to the next, only the colours getting a refresh, and even those are becoming more similar from one piece to the next.

This one was slightly hidden behind the hedge along the swimming pool wall at Dean Lane and contains some of his favoured colours. The likeness to all of his work can be seen by taking a look at a gallery of his pieces, although one significant difference is that this one has four horizontal colour bands, where most of his other pieces have three. Another fine addition to his portfolio.

Fade and Pekoe, Dean Lane, Bristol, August 2024

I am currently enjoying a few days in Copenhagen with my mother, to celebrate, belatedly, my 60th birthday. This means that the next few posts are a little hurried, and not very in depth, distractions being what they are.

This is a gorgeous and beautifully integrated collaboration from Fade and Pekoe. There is a synergy in this that works incredibly well with both artists adding to the others’ work, where the total is greater than the sum of the parts. The letters are magnificently painted by Fade, and the ‘A’ replaced with a trademark portrait from Pekoe. There is so much to love about this striking piece, especially the rich colour palette.

Well, this is surely one of the more unusual pieces from Hire, that indicates he is enjoying pushing boundaries. When I first encountered his work a few years ago, his USP was his spiky, sharp letters that could poke your eye out if you weren’t careful. Contrast that with this organic green piece spelling HIRE.

Each letter resembles a bushy tree with green branches and canopy, in various orientations. The letters are set on a dark conifer woodland silhouette. This is a very nicely considered and executed piece from Hire – connecting with nature.

Nice One, Dean Lane, Bristol, August 2024

Over the past few months some rather nice script writing has appeared all over Bristol, with the words ‘Nice One’. I had nothing more to go on about the artist, until now, when a signed portrait by the artist appeared in Dean Lane recently. Unfortunately the identity of the artist remains a mystery, and until I know more I will refer to them as Nice One.

This is a fantastic portrait piece painted in a ‘brush-stroke’ style, as if it were a charcoal sketch in a black book. The proportions and perspectives are superb, the work of a trained artist I would guess. I love the expression on the character’s face. The bold ‘e’ in the signature is something I’ll be looking out for. More to come from this Natural Adventures debutant soon.
