4589. M32 roundabout J3 (417)

Bristol definitely has it’s fair share of female graffiti writers; Mena, Evey, Lewse and Bnie to name a few, and it is great to watch Desi develop her writing and join this growing cohort. You will have seen work on Natural Adventures before, but using the letters DESI, however, recently she has switched it up a bit to write VEIL.

What is interesting is that although Desi’s letters may have changed completely, her individual style shines through, and she needn’t have signed it for people to know who painted it. This might be her best piece to date, it is really neat and tidy, and the fills are as good as I have seen from the artist. Much more to come from Desi, I’m sure.

More from Desi, who is really making her mark, literally and figuratively, on the Bristol graffiti scene. Her letters are easy on the eye, and it is her creativity with fills that is fast becoming.no her USP.

The colour schemes she uses are carefully thought out and always turn out well. This piece has horizontal fades from dark pink at the top to white at the bottom. Each of the letters is emphasised with a highlight line within the letters which makes the piece so much better. Desi continues to grow.

4337. New Stadium Road (39)

She’s not been painting for all that long, but already Desi has established herself on the Bristol scene, and her short ‘desi’ pieces are appearing at all the popular spots in the city. Desi’s USP is to keep her letter designs broadly similar, with the rather special little heart over the ‘i’, but to fill the letters with experimental combinations of colours and fill styles, often blending in all sorts of curious ways.

The colour selection for this piece; black, pink, purple, white helps the letters to stand out from the wall without the need to buff the wall first. I am looking forward to watching on as Desi develops and improves, as I think there is headroom to work with here.

4185. Cumberland Basin

This lovely piece from Desi is another from the RBF paint jam a little while back and continues the bright and optimistic colour scheme adopted for the whole wall. I would love to watch an RBF paint jam, but alas, my working routine means I am restricted to lunchtimes and weekends (during which I have a whole ton of family commitments).

Desi is an artist who has only been painting for a year or two, and with every piece her ideas and skills improve. It won’t be too long before she is giving some of the more established female writers a run for their money. The pastel shades used have a touch of ‘love hearts’ about them and this is a nice sugar-coated piece. I like the introduction of the blue triangles, adding interest to the fills.

4068. River Avon (23)

It is not too long ago that I first met Desi while she was painting a wall alongside the M32, and what a pleasure that was. During the course of our conversation she told me that she had been spraying walls for about a year, and I have to say that she seems to be progressing really well.

Desi’s letters tend to be uniform and stick to a basic design which incorporates a heart on top of the ‘i’. Such a decoration is almost exclusive to female artists, and seems to be a legacy of handwriting. I haven’t yet met a man who uses hearts or open circles instead of a dot over the ‘i’.

It would seem that Desi is working on the technical aspects of her fills, and she is doing well with this, adding variety and texture which seems to improve with each new piece. Desi is up-and-coming on the graffiti writing scene and I am looking forward to watching her progress. A lovely piece alongside the River Avon.

4014. River Avon (19)

A new name that has cropped up a lot recently is Desi, and on meeting her for the first time last week, I felt it would be fitting to start posting her work. I believe that she has only been spraying walls for about a year, but her progress has been rapid and she is producing some nice work.

Desi is an artist who uses the same letters in a broadly similar style, but decorates them differently, testing out different colour combinations and painting techniques. This is a fairly straightforward piece with a green fill and blue highlights bound with a black border and 3D shadow. The final touches of stars add interest. I am so full of admiration of anyone who gives it a go, and am inspired too. I wonder when I will find a moment and have the courage to spray my first wall.

The first of many Desi posts I’m sure.
