3145. M32 roundabout J3 (251)

If you can’t find a wall to paint, then you just have to get creative and find something else. In Bristol there are many people who live in vans and caravans and park up in quiet side streets. For some this is a lifestyle choice, for others it is borne out of necessity. Many occupants are open to having their homes decorated, and these guys got a fabulous makeover from Face 1st.

I understand that Face 1st has fun painting this and got on well with the occupants of the caravan. The piece itself is colourful and happy and in the style of a girl’s face with hair spelling out FACE, which is one of his regular compositions. I like this for so many reasons.

3132. M32 Spot (78)

There is no question about it, Angry Face is definitely back and seems to be having a bit of fun. I don’t know what the long absence was about, but it is great to see the artist back on form with this unique mega-tag.

This quick one recently appeared on one of the columns of the M32 Spot, and is the third piece by Angry Face I have seen in recent weeks… there may of course be others.

3127. Dean Lane skate park (341)

This is a small quick one from Pekoe painted underneath one of the ramps at Dean Lane skate park around the time of the DLH event. I think that Pejoe has painted a piece here once before and I’ll try and dig it out and add it to the end of this post.

This one is a little more multi-coloured in the face than her usual pieces, but you can see that it was probably painted quite quickly, lacking the finesse of some of her other work. It is a lovely piece nonetheless and for once no tears. Nice to see a cheeky little Smak tag thrown in too.

3089. Brunel Way bridge (51)

This is the third recent Kool Hand orangutan piece that I have seen and once again he is branching out into the use of patterned fills rather than the solid ones that have been such a central part of his past work.

The character’s face has been filled with what looks like an army print camouflage effect, but is probably just a random green and white pattern. I am enjoying watching Kool Hand adding a layer of sophistication to his pieces.

3076. St Marks Avenue (9)

I was walking in Easton last week, without the dog, which meant I was able to extend my range a little further and go a bit faster than normal. I decided to visit St Mark’s Avenue to see if anything had changed since I last visited a few months ago. Much was the same, but there were a couple of these bright colour portraits which I didn’t recall seeing before.

Regular readers will know how I rarely post pieces by unknown artists, but sometimes they simply deserve to be written about and maybe I’ll get lucky and find out who the artist is in due course. The white face is decorated with colourful makeup and looks as if it is prepared for a festival of some kind. I think the portrait definitely looks better viewed from the right than from the left – amazing how different it can look from different angles. I have pictures of another piece by the same artist which I will post in due course – I hope with the artist’s identity.

Annika Pixie has a style all of her own, not only in her artwork but in her free-spirited way of living her life. Her Instagram posts are an interesting insight into her extraordinary world. Her artwork always feels so fragile and ephemeral, but behind the these ghostly faces lie many untold secrets.

This column piece was painted during a paint jam organised by Skor85. Unfortunately I didn’t get to speak with Annika because she was just leaving as I was arriving, and by the time I had taken a few pictures she had gone. The piece itself is in my view a little haunting and feels a bit tinged with sadness.

Columns are quite difficult to paint and even more difficult to photograph, and I don’t think these pictures do the piece justice. Great to see something new from Annika Pixie, it has been a while.

3051. M32 roundabout J3 (229)

Here she comes again, the magnificent Pekoe with one of her eye-catching portraits. This one was painted recently during a weekend paint jam by the great and the good of Bristol. Pekoe is another artist who has been very active since the easing of lock down. We are getting very spoilt by our street artists at the moment.

There are several aspects of this piece that signify it as a Pekoe piece… the bright colourful face, big hair with beautiful patterning and a third eye that adorns several of her pieces. She has been an active supporter of the Black Lives Matter campaign and is orchestrator-in-chief of the RBF crew. Love this one.

3039. M32 Spot (75)

When I first saw this lovely piece I couldn’t place the artist. I was familiar with the style, but I don’t know, it was bothering me and I couldn’t immediately see the signature because of the skaters’ bags in front of it. A closer inspection revealed it is by Zake, but is quite unlike most of his other pieces that I have seen.

This is a really classy and thoughtful piece that makes perfect use of the awkward column space. The green-faced girl has beautiful blue hair that turns into a waterfall. Her right hand is holding a spray can that is painting her purple hair that stretches over her head and transforms into a hand that is reaching down to her left hand. Personally I think this is a wonderfully composed piece and concept, beautifully carried out. I love it.

There is a name Diana Abdul at the bottom of the piece, but I don’t know what significance this holds.

3013. St Werburghs tunnel (173)

One of the great pleasures for a street art photographer is when a particular artist wakes up from a long slumber. Having seen very little from Angry Face over the last couple of years, we have seen two new pieces of late, of which this one in St Werburghs tunnel is the most recent.

Not only has Angry Face returned, but his work seems altogether a bit more colourful and considered and although the basic angry face motif is largely unchanged, the patterns and fills are intricate and nicely done. I am really enjoying this reawakening and look forward to more appearances.

2975. Brunel Way bridge (32)

A column piece from Face 1st under Brunel Way. Simple, joyful, playful, there is nothing here to dislike. This is the kind of throw up that Face 1st can do in his sleep, but it is not quite as easy as it looks (believe me I have tried to copy his stuff in my garden, and utterly failed every time).

The girl’s face that we have become so accustomed to is topped with a high head of hair, maybe a beehive. The way the light reflects off the chrome hair gives the whole piece a wonderful effect. Some of these smaller pieces by Face 1st get left behind in the archive, but not this one, no not this one.
