3919. Dean Lane skate park (426)

It is a very good thing indeed that Flava136 has decided to visit Bristol several times recently, and long may it last – perhaps he should move here, that would be nice. His work is some of the cleanest you could hope to see, and by that I mean that everything, from the Emulsion backdrop to all the elements in his work are left with clean lines. There are no border lines tidying up little blemishes. Everything is perfectly painted, and this takes a lot of skill and patience.

The customary monster, with big teeth, is joined by a green smiley and decorated with all sorts of shapes, lines and colour schemes. The truth being tyold, I don’t think I can get enough of his pieces, each one being turned out immaculately. I don’t think I have seen a scrappy piece from the artist, ever. Superb piece, and more to come.

3881. Cumberland Basin

As a long-time admirer of Flava136’s work, it was a real treat to meet the artist for the first time during a paint jam on the long wall at Cumberland Basin. As is so often the case when meeting these folk, he was an awful lot younger than I had expected, but isn’t that what old people say about everyone?

Watching Flava136 bring this piece together was an education, and his skill and technique shone through in his ability to keep such clean lines throughout. The design and colour selections of this one are quite exceptional, and I think this might be my favourite of his yet.

Featuring a kind of mash-up of a monster and some abstract artwork, Flava136’s work is always instantly recognisable and definitely a crowd-pleaser. Although he doesn’t live in Bristol, he manages to visit reasonably regularly which can only be a good thing. Excellent piece.

I can’t be a hundred percent certain whether this was a collaboration or simply two pieces that had been painted adjacent to one another, but the black background leads me to believe it is the former.

On the left is another wonderful piece from Flava136 painted on a recent visit to Bristol from his native Cheltenham/Stroud kind of area. It is an absolute scorcher with a lot of complex things going on in the fills and shadings of the goofy monster. Lovely precise work.

To the right of the curved wall is a rather nice chrome set of letters spelling out VEK with a fine blue and green border, reflecting the colours of the 2DAE piece at the top of the wall, which I don’t think is a part of the collaboration, although I wouldn’t swear to it. Veks is having a bit of a busy time at the moment. I wonder how much all of these artists will be getting out once we resume a more ‘normal’ pre-Covid situation.

It looks like Flava136 may have spent a few days in Bristol a week or two back and during that visit he left us two very nice pieces indeed, this being the first one. Flava136 has worked hard on perfecting his monster style and his execution seems to improve with each new piece I see.

Although this piece didn’t last too long, it certainly made a lasting impression. When I took this picture, Varo was painting next to it. He offered to move his trolley, but I said that trolleys were all part of the picture and he needn’t bother. It almost looks like Flava136’s monster is about to devour the trolley. I love the way that Flava136’s work is becoming this mash-up of abstract and character art. Great colours too. This is a lovely fresh piece.

3217. Cheltenham 2020 (6)

Cheltenham is home to a small number of artists, but thanks in large part to Dice67 and his Cheltenham Paint Festival, it is firmly on the street art map of the UK. One of those local artists (although he might be from Gloucester, I can never quite remember) is Flava136 whose piece for this year’s festival was simply beautiful.

It is just such a pity that we don’t see more of his work in Bristol. His monster character is becoming more and more stylised and the design elements becoming more prominent. This piece is so clean and tidy and is a great showcase of his fine work. Flava136 is an artist I’ve yet to meet, but I’m sure it will happen soon enough.

We don’t get to see early enough work from Flava136 in Bristol although the artist tends to keep himself pretty busy in Cheltenham where he lives, so when you come across a piece it is always a nice surprise.

Flava136 always creates these pieces which are incredibly clean, and by that I mean the lines are sharp and the fills nice and solid. In style I would say there is some similarity with Nevergiveup’s rabbits. I love these toothy monsters and think that Flava136 is a classy artist.

2728. L Dub (9)

What a lovely prize to find at L Dub recently, in fact this wonderful work by Flava136 was one of several outstanding new pieces by various artists in this ‘out of the way’ spot. Flava136 is an artist I am very familiar with, but whose work I just haven’t seen enough of, so finding this was a real bonus.

His monster characters are very distinctive, I think it must be those peg teeth, and always so beautifully presented. Such clean lines and fills, fantastic work, and I love the clever way the ‘bubbles’ superimpose colours onto the design beneath. Super work from a talented artist. I just need to see more of his stuff, but I guess I’d have to move to Cheltenham for that to happen.

Here is another piece from earlier this year by Flava136 in Dean Lane. He is an artist I have been aware of for a fair while, but the infrequent bursts of activity have rather predicated against posting his pieces regularly, especially if these pulses coincide with lots of other new pieces.

Flava136’s monsters share some characteristics with those of other artists such as Nol and Nevergiveup, and I guess this all boils down to adopted techniques, such as long tongues or white spots on the eyes.

I feel I have missed a trick a bit by not getting to understand more about Flava136 and his work, but have plenty more to look forward to I’m sure.

2513. Cheltenham 2019 (12)

So you get nothing from an artist forever and then two posts in the space of three days, and so it is with this character piece by Flava136. I don’t really know why I haven’t seen much of his work before, but I seem to be finding plenty of it now.

This is one of a couple of pieces by Flava136 at the Cheltenham Paint Festival, but this one lasted rather longer than his other one in the Honeybourne Line tunnel which was wrecked, along with several others the night it was completed. Every time I see his work I am reminded of Stitch from the film Lilo and Stitch, I’m sorry I can’t help it…my bad.

An absolutely gorgeous collaboration from Kash and Flava136 on the large wall at Dean Lane skate park. Although I have not posted anything by either artist on Natural Adventures before, I have been an admirer of the work of Flava136 for a while.

Kash is an artist I have not come across before or at least I have I have done so unknowingly (have to check those archives again). I have taken a look at Kash’s Instagram account, which is private, but the avatar image is taken from this piece, so its obviously something the artist is proud of. The writing is in a 3D style and resembles slightly a mash up of Dibz and Lokey in my mind at least.

The brilliant character in a spaceship is the work of Flava136, and although this is the first time I have posted his work here it is most certainly not the last. There is something really easy on the eye about his tone and colours, but it is his character that brings the piece alive.
