7255. Frome Side (61)

I am really enjoying the art of Sketch. His modern pieces appear to draw so much inspiration from twentieth century styles, incorporating bright colours and abstract shapes and ideas. In this piece, Sketch seems to be experimenting on a rather busy concrete column under the M32.

The abstract shape seems to resemble a human form, but not quite, and it has been embellished with four nicely presented spheres and four purple ‘drips’. There is a simplicity of form that conjures up lots of ideas in the mind of the viewer. I am looking forward to Sketch breaking out of this safe space under the M32 and venturing to some of the more public spots… hoping it happens.

706. Upfest 2016 (110)

This is the sixth piece by Shab that I have posted since the beginning of the year. A relatively new discovery for me, but he has been here all the time…I just hadn’t recognised his work. I feel such a fool, because he is not only really established in Bristol, but turns out fantastic pieces across the city Bristol which somehow fell under my radar.

His work at Upfest appeared on the side of a train carriage with the word ‘unwellcome’ (spelling) written above several of his line drawn figures and heads. His human figures are like studies or drafts, with particular attention to proportions, muscles and form. I do like his work very much, and of course the piece is generously sprinkled with eyes.

292. Upper York Street (1)

When I started blogging about street art, roughly a year ago, I didn’t post very often about Bristol’s writers. I think that is because wildstyle writing is a bit of an acquired taste…but once you have a taste for it, it becomes addictive, like so many things in life.

Deamze has really been at the heart of winning me over to this graffiti art form – his pieces are everywhere and his styles vary, but they are always unmistakably his. He is part of Bristol’s USP and should be more widely celebrated in my view. This stunning piece is on a building at the junction between Upper York Street and Wilder Street, which is becoming my favourite graff area.

There is little point in me writing much about how good this piece is. Just look at it and admire his immense talent.
