This is another piece that was painted during the RBF paint jam to celebrate Bnie’s birthday and Vozie’s new baby with a Rugrats theme. It is of course by Desi, who more often writes Veil these days.

This must be one of Desi’s best pieces to date, with every element of the work coming together nicely. I believe that the character was painted by her and if it was, it is the first time I have seen her include a character, and it is brilliant. Her lines are sharp and her fills varied and interesting and one is left with an overall great piece of writing, that sits comfortably with all her RBF friends. Fabulous stuff.

Unity, Frome Side, Bristol, November 2023
Unity, Frome Side, Bristol, November 2023

Unity is smashing it out of the park these days, and to my huge joy, seems to be painting in Bristol a little bit more frequently than she has in the past… it is probably down to the sheer volume of RBF birthday celebration paint jams.

This Rugrats piece is simply brilliant, with Chuckie taking centre stage, along with an obligatory spray can. The character is wonderfully recreated, and the letters that Unity has written are outstanding. Polished off with a white flash, blue background and some building blocks, the whole thing is a visual feast, beautifully painted. It is a pity that it is painted in a spot where so few people will get to see it up close.

Bbygwya, Frome Side, Bristol, November 2023

Sometimes she writes FLUX, but on this occasion she has written LUXE, that is how Bbygwya rolls. Although she hasn’t painted a character for her piece, her letters are very well executed in this contribution to Bnie’s birthday and Vozie’s Baby celebration paint jam underneath the M32.

Bbygwya has done a great job with her fills in this piece, that I don’t quite know how to describe, magenta squiggles on a purple base I guess. The stars are very clever, giving off a kind of yellow glow or aura. A nice contribution from Bbygwya on what must have been a great, fun day.

Pekoe, Frome Side, Bristol, November 2023

I am only an occasional visitor to the Frome Side spot, which sits underneath the M32, adjacent to the M32 Spot, and access is a little tricky, especially in the wet weather, but particularly for the dog. I tend to save up my visits for a time when I can go alone, which these days isn’t all that often. I actually combined this one with a big shop at the Eastville Tesco.

What a treat awaited, a full wall of RBF paint jam pieces to celebrate Bnie’s birthday with a Rugrats theme. Pekoe absolutely came up trumps with this piece. She has smashed it here, combining her writing with a brilliant portrait of a Rugrats character (Susie Carmichael), and painting each of the letters in the style of the cartoon series, including a letter brick, a ball and a skipping rope. What a brilliant piece from Pekoe, demonstrating her talents with both characters and writing.

Bnie and Wispa, Frome Side, Bristol, May 2023
Bnie and Wispa, Frome Side, Bristol, May 2023

I don’t venture down to this spot very often, because the access isn’t really very suitable for the dog, and I wouldn’t want to take him down there, so my trips are limited to occasions when I have some free time and am dog-free. Making the effort is usually worth it, and on the last occasion, my prize was this lovely RBF collaboration from Bnie and Wispa.

The pair of artists have chosen a salmon and cucumber colour scheme (were they subliminally influenced by the Garrick Club?). Bnie has painted pink BNIE letters which have the letters RBF in green (and blue) overlaid, in a very clever presentation. Neat, tidy and creative, this is another in a string of outstanding pieces of graffiti writing from Bnie.

Wispa has gone for a slightly lighter pink in her fill, transitioning to lilac and purple in horizontal strips. A deep 3D fill in green and black helps the writing to pop out from the wall. Wispa often adds extra value with her pieces by incorporating a character, and in this one a cuddly Kawaii rabbit adds to the cute factor. This is a lovely collaborative wall from these two great writers.

Maesyhook, Frome Side, Bristol, May 2022
Maesyhook, Frome Side, Bristol, May 2022

This is another piece I have salvaged from the archives, mainly because I love Maesyhook’s work and always try to post it when I find it. This one fell through the net. The column piece is under the M32, next to the channelled River Frome, and has had a little bit of augmentation performed to the eyes, which is a pity. Why do people do things like that? If they want to bugger up someone else’s work, at least go over the whole thing, or better paint something equally good or superior over it.

Maesyhook’s Kawaii style works brilliantly with this character from The Mandalorian Star Wars offshoot. A mini Yoda type character causing mischief, I am sure. The force is strong in this one, make no mistake.

Full Time Ghoul, Frome side, Bristol, October 2022
Full Time Ghoul, Frome side, Bristol, October 2022

I have said it before, but Full Time Ghoul is under-represented here on Natural Adventures. I have many of his mega-tag pieces in my archives, but simply haven’t posted many of them. This post begins to address the situation.

The eye-catching knot over the skull is an original idea and makes for a powerful identity. It also lends itself to columns and doors, which FTG certainly specialises in. This is a blue variant of the motif with a red border, although more often he uses yellows and greens. FTG has hidden this one under the M32.

Bogat, Frome side, Bristol, October 2022
Bogat, Frome side, Bristol, October 2022

I was very pleased to find this Bogat piece underneath the M32, but a little frustrated that another appeared a day or two after I took this photograph. Frustrated, because I only get to visit this spot occasionally, and often miss pieces that I’d like to see.

Bogat paints columns really well and his elongated portrait pieces seem to fit perfectly.  This one includes a octopus, an animal used a lot in Bogat’s work. It is great to see that phallus tags are still de rigeuer centuries after the Romans perfected the ‘cock and balls’ stamp. Some things never change.

Solar, Frome side, Bristol, October 2022
Solar, Frome side, Bristol, October 2022

I checked through previous posts before writing this piece about Solar, and it appears that I have only written about his work twice before on Natural Adventures. This is in spite of having taken plenty of pictures of Solar writing about the place. I will need to rummage around in my archives to post more Solar pieces, as they offer an antidote to more conventional graffiti writing.

In this ethereal piece under the M32, Solar has written out his letters, which have a transparent look to them, over a background pattern of red, purple and black ‘marbelling’ of the wall. A lovely piece in a place where it won’t get as much exposure as it deserves.

Whysayit, Frome side, Bristol October 2022
Whysayit, Frome side, Bristol October 2022

I first came across Whysayit (YSAE) a few years ago when he regularly collaborated with Kleiner Shames. Although I have never met him, I have enjoyed his irregular anti-graffiti style over the years, and this one under the M32 is a banger.

Whysayit, Frome side, Bristol October 2022

The organic writing is simple, spelling out ‘YSAE’ in two tones of pink. Light pink for the letters and dark pink for the drop shadow. Combine these with a black border and white highlights, and you have straightforward, quality writing which lifts nicely off the wall. Sometimes less is more.
