I met Fink briefly at the Cheltenham Paint Festival recently, and he was good enough to stop for a quick chat. I mentioned to him that I had seen some of his work in Bristol from quite a while back and had been following his work on Instagram for a while. It turns out he lives now in Dubai and makes his living from his art commissions, which is pretty amazing. It seems that on his trip to the UK he dropped in to Bristol for a quick stop and painted this magnificent piece not far away from the back of Temple Meads station.

Fink’s abstract portrait pieces are special, drawn with a continuous line, a bit like sketching a face on paper in one go without lifting the pen. The golden face is made up of smaller faces painted in the same way, that give the whole piece texture and interest. This is a very fine piece from a visiting artist, who has some history with Bristol.

The starburst of pieces by Logoe on his most recent visit to Bristol, are a welcome injection of diversity for our walls, and this time he has spread his wings, hitting more spots than usual, including this ramp in the Dean Lane skate park.

I scarcely need to describe the writing, or indeed the typical decoration that goes with it, other than perhaps to highlight the fine colour selection of gold letters on a pink background festooned with pink, yellow, grey and purple oval dots. He includes a nice shout-out to TES, Haka and Silent Hobo, none of whom, I assume, were available to paint with him on this visit.

2586. St Werburghs tunnel (111)

This is the second piece of fine writing I have seen from Face 1st in recent weeks and once again shows the diversity of his ability. In my view, this is a very fine piece of graffiti writing indeed and unfortunately the pictures just don’t convey how good it is. I think the piece was painted during a session with Fiva (to the left and already posted on Natural Adventures) and if you look closely there is a little shout out to Fiva at the top above the C and E.

The piece transitions seamlessly from gold through light bronze to silver, an effect that is accentuated by the yellow lighting in the tunnel. This particular work kind of gives me a warm feeling – maybe it is nostalgia as the letters have a bit of a 1970s feel about them. A classy piece.

2410. M32 roundabout J3 (160)

I might have said it recently, but I’ll say it again just in case, Daz Cat has been really productive lately and he is stretching his repetoire of work through original ideas and collaborations and it is a pleasure to watch.

Rather kindly, Bristol City Council have buffed a few walls on the M32 roundabout and one of the first to occupy the new clean space was Daz Cat with this entertaining pair of cats painted on either side of an entrance to one of the pedestrian/bicycle underpasses. On the left is a gold cat speaking the word ‘chrome’.

On the right of the tunnel is a chrome cat saying the word ‘gold’. This appears to be a cat conversation with each calling out the other’s name. It is a lovely idea nicely executed, and what fun Daz Cat must have had painting this blank canvas. With any luck the council will buff a few more walls on this roundabout, enabling a bit of a refresh. I fear that this was not their intention, but hey ho.

1642. Upfest 2018 (4)

Each year at Upfest, there is a feature artist, and this year it was Jody. This small golden apple piece is one of a few works that Jody created at this year’s festival. In this piece, Jody has taken a simple idea and made it spectacular. The shading and light blended with the gold grey and white colours gives us an exceptional and compelling image, which contrasts so well with the black background.

Jody must have completed this, and one or two other small pieces before the festival began, which is probably just as well, because he was still painting his main piece a few days after the end of Upfest. I am including a picture from last year, to remind you of the considerable talents of this Bristol artist.

286. St Werburghs Tunnel (1)

This piece can be found in one of the Bristol hotspots that I have yet to feature in the blog – criminal really. I have been to the St Werberghs tunnel, which leads to the city farm, several times and there is always tons of new material each time I go. The main problem with this location is that the artificial light in the middle, and natural light at the tunnel ends, makes photographing the pieces really difficult.

This is an incredibly nicely worked piece of writing by Sled One. He is quite the master of disguising his wildstyle, and the colour combinations he uses never disappoint. The photographs probably don’t do this piece justice – it is a stunner.
