Sub, M32 roundabout, Bristol, November 2025

Sub’s improvement over the last couple of years is marked, and his persistence admirable. He paints regularly and in lots of different spots, constantly refining his technique and turning out some distinctive pieces.

In this piece, his blended fill is really well done, transitioning seamlessly from grey to turquoise. He has also managed to achieve a fascinating cloudy pink line running through his letters, a great effect. I think that these letters have slightly softer edges than some of his previous pieces, and it is a good look. Clean, tidy with interesting ideas… what’s not to like?

Serm, M32 roundabout, Bristol, November 2025
Serm, M32 roundabout, Bristol, November 2025

Serm is a Bristol graffiti writer whose work I don’t get to see all that often, and I think he is probably on the lower end of the productivity scale. His quality, however, shines through, and it is always great to see his pieces when they do appear.

Serm, M32 roundabout, Bristol, November 2025

This is a fine red and white piece (colours close to my heart) spelling out SERM, which has a few small hints at Halloween, the biggest of which is the ‘happy Halloween’ message bottom left, and a scattering of bats and bloody drips. His 3D drop shadow is customarily deep, and it looks like he was running low on grey-white paint, an occupational hazard for graffiti/street artists. Another fine piece to add to his gallery.

Roma, M32 roundabout, Bristol, November 2025
Roma, M32 roundabout, Bristol, November 2025

Although I have posted a couple of pieces by Roma before, I know little about the artist. There is something rather pleasing about the letter shapes, or perhaps it is simply the connection and love I have for the city of Rome.

This is a nicely presented chrome piece with a deep drop shadow in red and thin black border. The ‘o’ of ROMA is a little skull. The writing is nicely decorated with a small wave of blue stars and spots running horizontally through the letters. A rather nicely considered sand presented piece.

Hypo, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025
Hypo, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025

There is not a lot more I can say about Hypo that I haven’t said in numerous previous posts. He has upped his game considerably over the last two years or so, both in terms of quality and quantity of pieces. During that time he has jumped up a couple of levels, which you can see if you take a glance at this revised gallery of his work.

Hypo, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025

In this piece, Hypo uses loads of colours, indicating that it could be a ‘dregs’ piece (one which uses up what is left in spray cans) although, Hypo typically does like to use a wide range of colours. Some of his recent pieces have incorporated small spheres for decoration, and they do a great job of adding something a little extra in this work. More magnificent graffiti writing from Hypo.

Noise, M32 roundabout, Bristol, October 2025
Noise, M32 roundabout, Bristol, October 2025

Although the letters in this piece are a little skinnier than one might expect from Noise, they are nonetheless unmistakably his. Of course, the fact that the letters spell NOISE removes any doubt whatsoever about the artist.

I would say that this is, in my view, one of Noise’s best pieces yet. By thinning his letters, he has created more scope for borders and intricate design, that perhaps his fatter letters restrict a little. The two tones of red and orange throughout are beautifully blended, and perfectly offset by the light blue border highlight. Even the grey buffed wall has been disrupted and made more interesting with some cracks. A really nice piece.

Hemper, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025
Hemper, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025

Hemper is one of the great experimenters and innovators of wildstyle graffiti writing in Bristol and no two pieces are the same, and the styles and letter fonts he uses vary considerably from piece to piece. This way he gets to express his creative ideas to the maximum, not constrained by familiar patterns or shapes. It takes extreme talent and confidence to do what he does.

This HEMS piece is really very unusual and has a kind of mirage effect created by the wobbly yellow interventions, working with the purple and blue letters, that manage to both clarify and at the same time disguise the word. This is very clever stuff. Writing like this is definitely not something you will see every day. Love it.

Shade One, M32 roundabout, Bristol, August 2025
Shade One, M32 roundabout, Bristol, August 2025

One of the very best character portrait artists in Bristol, who doesn’t paint as often as I’d like is Shade One. Fortunately the draw of joining a Ulow birthday celebration was enough to bring him out to create this absolute beauty.

Shade One, M32 roundabout, Bristol, August 2025
Shade One, M32 roundabout, Bristol, August 2025

Shade One is a specialist at painting caricature portraits, where the subjects are completely on point, but don’t fall into the realm of photorealism. The girl, wearing a bucket hat, painted in greyscale, is absolutely beautiful. Her expression somewhat moody as she glances to her right. Shade One is surely an artist at the very top of his game.

Rusk, M32 roundabout, Bristol, August 2025
Rusk, M32 roundabout, Bristol, August 2025

Another fabulous piece from the ‘high-end’ paint jam honouring Ulow’s birthday a little while back. This one is by Rusk, a graffiti writer whose work I love, but who has been rather quiet over the last couple of years. I expect he is bus6 in other areas of his life, but he still has the skill and patience to turnout superb pieces like this one.

Rusk, M32 roundabout, Bristol, August 2025
Rusk, M32 roundabout, Bristol, August 2025

The letters spell out Ulow, and are set on the grey-blue buffed wall, which was the same for all of the artists. This is a very special and technically brilliant piece in which the letters appear to be like a hollow framework, into which the colours have been ‘poured’. The two halves in different colours have been separated by a black horizon line, making a landscape effect. Shading on the letter edges provides depth. What an outstanding piece of graffiti writing. Bravo!

Posh, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025
Posh, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025

Posh has been on fire since the spring, and it has been a pure joy to see the wide range of characters and writing from the artist over that time. His style is rather unusual, and probably best described as a form of paint sketch work, incorporating tons of busy detail… perhaps the sign of a busy mind.

Posh, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025
Posh, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025

I think these heavily disguised letters spell POSH, although they could pretty much spell anything. The complexity and depth of the piece is quite mind-boggling, with layer upon layer of detail. I rather like the subtle shift of colour two-thirds of the way through the piece, with brassy tones. Fabulous work from Posh.

Face 1st, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025
Face 1st, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025

At around the time Face 1st left Bristol about a year or so ago, he had been doing quite a lot of experimentation around his writing and different font ideas. On his visits back to Bristol, he has switched between his writing and his character combination pieces. This one is writing only.

Face 1st, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025
Face 1st, M32 roundabout, Bristol, September 2025

The letters spell out FACE 1ST in a rather unusual typeface that looks like a first step towards calligraffiti, but has too many soft edges and freedom to be considered as that. I am a huge fan of Face 1st’s work and would like to see him painting more of his character pieces, and concentrating less on his writing, but I think that he might feel differently. A nice collaboration with PWA fellow Soap.
