2390. St Werburghs tunnel (92)

It is good to see that Mr Draws is getting out a bit more again after a comparatively quiet period. This rather low-key piece in St Werburghs tunnel is a nice take on his DRAW lettering, with a reversal of the letter D. This is quite a common effect used by writers but is always fun and effective.

Rather strangely, the subtle colours used here by Mr Draws come out better in my photographs than some of the other more vibrant adjacent pieces. Usually the poor lighting in the tunnel brings out a lot of amber and orange colours, but this piece is mercifully spared from that fate. Mr Draws would seem to be enjoying his wobbly white outline, which he has used in several of his more recent pieces and is rather effective. I guess that getting a good wobbly line is probably as difficult as getting a good straight line.

2370. Dean Lane skate park (238)

I have liked the work of Mr Draws a great deal now for several years and am enjoying seeing his work get tighter and more creative with each outing. This is a simple but effective rendition of his ‘Draw’ signature.

The green and yellow stripes are nicely selected and painted and the whole thing is given a lift with the thick black outline. It would seem that so many of the spots Mr Draws liked to paint are now out of action, such as the Bearpit and Carriageworks. It is great then that he continues his great work, even if I have to go the extra mile to see it.

It is great to see Mr Draws back out and enjoying himself. This is a really colourful piece (gone already I’m afraid) that kind of reminds me a little of birthday party wrapping paper. The letters DREW, a corruption of Draws, are connected with some kind of tubing that looks a little like a worm.

What you see is what you get with Mr Draws. There is nothing pretentious about his work and he has developed a style that is all his own. If you are looking for perfect geometric lines or clever 3D shading, then probably best to look elsewhere. I lioke his work because of its authenticity and honesty – rare commodities just at the moment. Brought a smile to my face.

2145. Dean Lane skate park (205)

I haven’t seen a whole lot of Mr Draws’ work lately – I think he has been out and about, but by the time I get to find his pieces they have been over-painted, so it was most gratifying to come across this one in Dean Lane last week.

His ideas are simple and his execution very much in the style of high-class bombers, but in my mind what really sets him apart from others is his willingness to try new concepts and colour patterns. This piece really works for me, it is easy on the eye and I just can’t stop myself following the purple spiral from the centre outwards and back again. The multicoloured fill is a joy. All good from Mr Draws.

2027. The Bearpit (175)

Between Mr Draws and Object… The Bearpit is just about keeping alive, although I did notice some Panskaribas pieces on my way into work earlier this week (to follow). This is a quick one from Mr Draws and draws (no pun intended) on his staple decorated lettering.

The colours and patterns make this writing easy on the eye, but it is not to everyone’s taste, and sometimes those who like to sit in judgement on such things can be a bit rude about his work. I’ll have none of it. He brightens up our streets and has no pretensions at all. Perhaps some would prefer clinical fine art, commissioned and safe, but that does not pick up on the diversity and full spectrum of the discipline.

1996. St Werburghs tunnel (60)

These two have collaborated a few times before and it is always a treat when they do. Somehow the styles of Tasha Bee and Mr Draws complement each other so well. Perhaps it is their love of lots of colour or their soft designs – I don’t know, but they work well together, and both such nice people too.

There is something rather happy about Tasha Bee’s face, perhaps the hint of a smile…an enigmatic smile maybe? This is great to see, as some of her faces seem quite serene or sad even. Not this one. Maybe my eye is distracted a little by the big grin of a Fiva piece which they have painted over.

I have said it countless times before, but I make no bones about saying it again, I will never tire of Mr Draw’s work and his relentless productivity. Even when he’s not spraying walls, he is always working on sketches or paintings. The including of an uncertain smilie adds to the charm of this piece. A lovely collaboration.

1962. M32 roundabout J3 (116)

Mr Draws is definitely not a one trick pony, and although he enjoys writing his name a lot (well who doesn’t?), he also comes up with some other creative ideas, such as this pair of doughnuts dressed up in his ‘house’ style.

I have always liked his work, which has featured numerous times in Natural Adventures, but these special pieces really stand out, rather like the trainer he did in The Bearpit last year. Great fun stuff.

Aaah, familiar stuff from Mr Draws and one that had been inadvertently omitted earlier in the year, which is surprising really, because it is so very good.

There is always something very cheery about his work that works for me. In this piece, the filler is absolutely beautiful, the two colour palettes above and below the yellow line are brilliantly complementary and the bubble effect imperious. I really love the simple idea and lovely execution of this one. Can’t believe it has taken almost a year to post it!

You can’t hold him back. Mr Draws was planning to go and live in Germany at the end of the summer, but for whatever reason his plans fell through. His loss is surely Bristol’s gain as he continues to brighten up the place with his burners.

This one has a rather wintry feel about it, the colours and icy drips definitely feel a bit frosty. I love the way that Mr Draws just keeps on going – no matter what life throws at him, he just seems to pick himself up and carry on. It has been a while since I last chatted with him, which is a pity, because he is a really lovely bloke.

1839. The Bearpit (168)

Mr Draws is not being quite as busy on the streets these days, so it was a welcome surprise to come across this recent piece in The Bearpit on my way in to work, especially as Bristol City Council are making it very difficult for anyone to do anything beautiful in The Bearpit at the moment.

This piece just screams out ‘doughnuts’ to me…I’m not sure if it is meant to, but it does. It is alwats great to see these happy pieces by Mr Draws, whose colourful works definitely brighten up the place.
