Grrr! it is so annoying when the sun shines on days when I take a stroll to photograph urban art. I am so stupid, and get caught out all too often. This is the only piece that I can post from a wonderful Easter RBF paint jam on the Greenbank hoardings. I will have to return to photograph the rest again on an overcast day, and in the meantime just hope that they haven’t been tagged or bombed.

Bnie is a brilliant writer and artist, and her characteristic pieces are such a joy to find. This clever piece has two separate colour combination elements, one of yellow and pinks and the second is a zig-zag stripe of light blue and lilac colours running through the piece. I have seen this kind of inverse design technique before and it is always a winner. The eggs are a nod to Easter. Great work from Bnie.

Who knew? Vozie can do portrait pieces. I have not been following Vozie for all that long, maybe a year now, but this is the first piece that I have seen that isn’t her exquisite writing. Surprises like this are what makes photographing and documenting street art so pleasurable.

The portrait, with psychedelic colours and designs, is beautifully structured and finished, with the hair and eyes being particular highlights. It is incredible how different artists bring different things to portraits, for example, this piece could be compared to Pekoe’s work, any yet their styles are so utterly different. Great to see something totally different from Vozie.

A weird thing I have noticed about my last three posts is that the three different featured artists’ names all end in ‘OE’. Logoe, Turoe, and in this post, Pekoe. What are the chances of that? We are used to seeing Pekoe’s stylised portraits, but her last couple of pieces have been graffiti writing instead. Perhaps she feels like a bit of a change.

I think the most noticeable thing about this piece is the colourful fills in the letters, which are painted in a fairly random and unruly fashion. Features that are common with her portraits are the tears and little diamonds, adding interest. Although I like the fact that Pekoe is doing something different, I do prefer her portraits, which bring out her strengths.

I have a feeling that we are going to see a lot more of Bbygwya’s work on Natural Adventures over the coming months. This RBF crew member has only recently arrived on my radar, but I know I already have a handful of her works in my photograph folders.

I haven’t yet worked out what the letters spell, but I am sure that Paul H will be able to help me out with that (it seems obvious now, but Paul H informs me it says FLUKS). This is accomplished writing, with a pleasing form and nicely crafted fills, drop shadow and background elements.  I am also happy to see that Moon street is having a little bit of a renaissance at the moment. Some things work so well together, strawberries and cream, Morecambe and Wise, Pekoe and Bnie. These two from the Resting Bitch Face (RBF) crew seem to have a great rapport, which rubs off when they collaborate.

This pairing was painted alongside Wispa, but I decided to post them separately as these two followed a strict colour scheme. To the left is a really fabulous portrait piece from Pekoe, which includes an upper torso, something of a rarity in her work. The hair is fantastic – I absolutely love this piece.

To the right is some outstanding technicolour writing from Bnie, beautifully designed and executed. The piece is totally on point, and I love the clever touch with the outer border, which is pink and white along thee top, and blue and white underneath. This is a nicely thought out and eye-catching piece.

I follow Wispa (Willo the Wisp) on Instagram, and it seems that not only is she talented and prolific with her art, but she seems to travel extensively to paint with friends wherever she pitches up. Fortunately, she appears to have some RBF friends in Bristol, and we are treated to her work every now and again.

This piece under Brunel Way is a real cracker, with so much to enjoy. The first impression is how bright and colourful the piece is, but it is so much more than that. The fills in the letters are strong and the lines between colours straight and sharp. Of course, the character on the left tops the piece off beautifully, but it would be just as strong without it, demonstrating the quality of her writing. I hope she returns soon, although there is a little extra piece she painted on this visit.

The next few posts are images taken out of my archives. I got distracted. I was actually looking for something specific from roughly December 2020, but then stumbled upon a whole bunch of pieces which had been left behind and that I simply had to publish.

First up is this beauty from Bnie on the cycle path photographed in November 2020. This is not the only unpublished piece by Bnie in my archive, and I will get round to publishing the others at some point. There are some outstanding fills in this piece, and the trademark mouth in the letter ‘B’. I simply can’t think how I let this one slip through the net.

It is a curious thing when an artist paints over their own work, but that is what happened in this instance. Maybe Pekoe didn’t like her last portrait piece here, or maybe she didn’t want to paint over anyone else’s work out of politeness, who knows, but the replacement is an upgrade in my view, and anything from her is always a bonus in my book.

The portrait is painted in purple tones, with blue hair, and the girl carries a slightly anxious expression. Many of Pekoe’s portraits are tinged with sadness, but I don’t think that is the case here, for a start, there are no tears. Some subtle shading brings depth to the face, and the white circles emphasise the lips and eyes. This is another beautiful piece from Pekoe.

Evey turned up late to this RBF mini-paint jam, so I didn’t get to meet her on this occasion, but I did chat for a while with Desi and Lupa who had buffed the wall and were well into their pieces.

I seem to say it every time I post a new piece by Evey, but her progress is steady, and each new piece shows improvements both in design and finishing. This EVEN is a classic with nice curvy letters, three horizontal shaeds of blue/lilac and a topping of white with sprinkles – a wonderful pudding served up – delicious. It must surely be time for an Evey gallery.

There has never been a time when I haven’t been absolutely made up to find a portrait piece from the wonderful Pekoe. It feels like quite a while since her last piece, so this one was a very welcome find.

Of course, the portrait has many of the characteristics you’d associate with Pekoe’s work; big hair, sad eyes, great shading to bring out the features and incredible presence. I would have to say that I am not entirely sure about the colour scheme, a little bit too much brown and orange for my liking, but overall this is another wonderful shot in the arm from Pekoe.
