I managed to catch this piece literally minutes before it was painted over. The artists were on site having a quick smoke before getting started. I am pleased to have made it in time because even for the high standards expected from Rezwonk, this is an outstanding piece.
Spelling out REZER, the piece is painted using a gorgeous palette of red, orange and yellow tones set on a white and orange background. To describe the fills fully would take way too long, but suffice it to say that there is a lot of craftsmanship involved and they are beautifully done. Linger for a while and study each letter. Magnificent work.
Rezwonk is one of the most productive artists in Bristol, or at least was pre-coronavirus, so it is inevitable that I haven’t been able to post all his works as we go along, or there wouldn’t be any room for anyone else. This pause on activity on the streets has enabled me to catch up a little.
As always with Rezwonk, this piece is on point in terms of design and execution. I would point out though that the colour selection either of the piece or the wall is not ideal as the whole thing looks a bit lost. If it were on a lighter background it would probably stand out a little more. (Splitting hairs… sorry). Always great work from Rezer.
Oh what a beauty from Rezwonk on the M32 cycle path. I think that the most prolific artists are at greater risk of having work that I struggle to post. One of the reasons for this is that I like to present a representative spectrum of the street/graffiti in Bristol and so if an artist paints three walls in a week, I will reserve a couple of them to post at a later date… this is a later date, a much later date.
I really love this piece, the colours, the letter style and the details. Set on a flame-coloured background of Rezwonk ‘R’ tags, the letters are supported with a deep 3D shadow that seems to have a vanishing point somewhere behind the ‘Z’. The finishing touches of cracks in some of the letters adds even more interest to the whole thing. Classy.
This beautifully proportioned REZER from Rezwonk was painted alongside frequent painting buddy Nightwayss in St Werburghs tunnel about two or three weeks ago. Crikey, so much has happened since then, it is unimaginable.
Like so many of the talented street artists in Bristol, Rezwonk’s work is always on point, and even his throw ups have a touch of class to them. The overall design is great and looking closely at the letters it looks like the ER at the end might have been switched to RE or even something else. I expect there will be a creative outburst when all this is finally over.
I think that we are spoiled in Bristol. We have a graffiti/street art culture that is mirrored only in a few other cities in the world. Playing host to Europe’s largest street art festival (Upfest) and being the birthplace of Banksy gives Bristol a special place in the street art scene. But for me, it is the every day artists who hit the walls in spots dotted all over the place knowing that their work may be tagged or painted over within hours that are the beating heart of Bristol’s street art culture, and one of those artists is Rezwonk.
This is a lovely piece of writing by Rezwonk that was painted a little while ago, but it is only recently that I have been able to photograph it without tree shadows all over it. Painted with his mate Decay (to the left and previously posted), there is a sense of movement fun and joy in this teriffic piece of graffiti writing.
Rezwonk has had a very busy year, and a particularly busy summer, so it is not really surprising that he has slowed down a little over the last couple of months. In general, the turnover of street/graffiti art slows a little during the winter months, which makes sense really.
This piece at the far west end of Wilder street is on a wall that has been curated by Where the Wall, but I am not so sure if it still is because a few ad hoc pieces seem to be appearing. This whole area though is rapidly being redeveloped, and several walls with some lovely pieces have been knocked down in recent weeks. Of course this is a pity for the street art community, but the buildings were falling into dereliction and perhaps no longer fit for purpose. My issue however is that instead of building affordable housing for the local community, which is far from affluent, all the developments are earmarked for student accommodation.
Back to the Rezer piece which is a thoroughly decent burner and which (I guess intentionally) has an effect of being slightly blurry (around the white accents) – or maybe this is an artefact of my failing eyesight. Always good to see work from Rezwonk.
Possibly this piece needs no introduction because the artist features in Natural Adventures rather a lot although this one is a little more cryptic than some of his other works. It is of course by Rezwonk and spells out REZER.
Because of the light conditions in the tunnel, this photograph really doesn’t do the piece justice at all and the colours have been somewhat bleached out. This is highly accomplished and complex writing with so many elements crossing over between letters in what looks like a rather haphazard way and yet perfectly creating great letters. When I see complex work like this, I just scratch my head and wonder how on Earth he does it. Great skills.
I met Rezwonk for the first time last week, and what a pleasure it was too. He was actually painting a piece at the M32 roundabout (to follow). Our conversation was brief, because both of us had to rush off. I also met at the same time another Bristol ‘hunter’ who goes by the Instagram moniker @bristol.graffiti and it was a real pleasure to meet her too (and if I am honest I has assumed incorrectly that she was a man before I met her, stumbling into the perils of unconscious bias once again). The anonymity that digital social media affords is a double-edged sword.
As ever, this piece by Rezwonk is sharp, creative and really demonstrates the artistic talents and range in his locker. The red and white combination (a personal favourite of mine) works exceptionally at the end of this dark tunnel – other colour combinations probably wouldn’t have the same impact. Nice work once again. Very, very prolific at the moment.
Rezwonk is another street artist who seems to have found an extraordinary energy level this year, developing his writing in spots all over Bristol. This time he has produced a rather nice solo piece, but in recent weeks he has painted a lot in collaboration with Decay.
Here he spells out REZER, an obvious shortening of his ‘name’. It is an interesting moniker because the letters are quite harsh in capital form, lots of straight lines, in contrast for example with my own SCOOJ, which is much more curvy. I wonder if the names are directly or indirectly responsible for the development of a style… very probably.
This is a nice piece of writing, which sets me up nicely for a new piece of his that I photographed yesterday in Dean Lane that is outstanding, and which I will post in due course.
