3672. M32 Cycle path (125)

I had to take two attempts to get photographs of this wonderful piece of writing from Teao One along the M32 cycle path. When the sun is behind this wall (which seems to be most of the time), it darkens the wall and anything on it and because my photographic skills on my point-and-shoot camera aren’t up to scratch, I can’t accommodate very well for these challenging light conditions.

Fortunately the piece was very much intact when I returned. Teao One is something of a sleeping giant who has taken to writing again and is doing so in a way that seems to be making up for lost time. His style is utterly brilliant and his letters, fills and decorations very tight indeed. It is so good to have met him on a couple of occasions now and he seems like a really nice guy. Great new work from an old-timer.

3671. M32 roundabout J3 (318)

The number of ‘new entrants’ into the Bristol street/graffiti art scene over the last six months has been utterly staggering, and quite a handful to keep up with. One artist making a bit of a name for themselves (figuratively and literally) is Dog Bless the Band.

The artwork is very much in the school of unconventional letter shapes and textures practised by Taboo, Whos and Alos all of whom use this irregular form to great effect. I can’t quite make the letters out, but it looks like MO?EL or something like that. I love the M, which has real charisma. The dull colours work nicely together in this low-key piece. Looking forward to posting a lot more from this artist.

3670. M32 roundabout J3 (317)

I have separated this piece from a large collaborative wall with Face 1st, Sage and Soap, because I felt that it was deserving of its own post, but also because I like to switch things up from time to time.

Daz Cat has been relentless in his pursuit of painting joy this year, and I have several unpublished pieces by him waiting in my archive. This large piece sits so nicely alongside the Laic217 piece next to it, you could almost believe that they were painted at the same time, but they were not. Great respect shown to Laic217. Daz Cat has taken a little bit more time pulling this one together and there is a lot of nice detail in the cat’s face and jumper. The anthropomorphism goes a little further with this cat who has a human hand instead of a claw. Another superb piece from Daz Cat.

3669. M32 Cycle path (124)

Another flurry of activity from Face 1st and Soap, whom are really making my life very difficult at the moment with their productivity and quality of work. If their stuff was rubbish, then I could easily ignore it and move on, but it is not and I feel compelled to post it whenever possible.

This pair of PWA artists have collaborated in this spot quite a few times over the years and their friendship appears to be as strong as ever. The collaboration is a Kill the Bill piece, which will meet with a lot of sympathy in Bristol. Another cheerful expression on this happy girl from Face 1st with a subtle FACE written into her hair.

Soap has reverted to a standard form of his iconic skull/mouths design, and the character is holding up a protest banner. The fill is very nicely blended with some nice decorations. The whole collaboration is set on a pinky cloudy kind of backdrop and ticks a lot of boxes for me. Nice work.

3668. St Werburghs tunnel (240)

Pl8o who also goes by the Instagram moniker of westernmiddleages has resurfaced in Bristol after a rather quiet period, and he has come back with bigger, bolder and brighter pieces. His letter/number choice has always leant itself well to graffiti writing, but now he has added much deeper 3D shadows into the mix.

Although the St Werburghs tunnel never photographs particularly well you can see the quality and creativity in this piece. My favourite part, probably because it looks a little incongruous is the red and black dot shading… really eye-catching. Nice to see him back.

3667. St Werburghs tunnel (239)

Striking and definitely photogenic is this lovely recent portrait piece from Zake, who has been rather quiet of late. It is kind of comforting when artists who have been lying low, for whatever reason, come back and hit a wall with such gusto.

Zake is an artist who pretty much specialises in portraits and gives them loads of depth with his trademark shading around the features. This face feels like it should belong to a comic book, perhaps it is a representation from one. He has labelled the piece with DLH 21. DLH in my book is Dean Lane Hardcore, but I am not too sure what it means in this context. A decent and long-awaited return.
