6539. Frome Side (40)

Omie, Frome side, Bristol, November 2024

In the short time that I have been aware of the artist, Omie’s work simply gets better and better. Omie is one of those artists who uses completely different styles for each piece, with only the letters OMIE remaining constant, so you never quite know what you are going to get next, and I love that versatility and element of surprise.

This piece was painted in a large collaboration as part of Chapter 17 of the World Wall Stylers challenge, with a ‘Ninja Scroll’ theme, a 1990s Japanese animation. Omie has stuck to the theme colours really well and created something quite beautiful in pink and grey shades, bordered with a blood-red line and drips. The background is a subtly worked bamboo forest, which on its own is worthy of great praise. A fine piece from Omie.

6535. Frome Side (39)

Quale, Frome side, Bristol, November 2024

At first glance I was fooled into thinking that this piece was by Conrico, mainly based on the subject matter, but also a little o the style, but it didn’t quite feel right. It turns out it is by visiting artist Quale, as part of a chapter 17 World Wall Stylers paint jam challenge with the theme Ninja Scroll. Ninja Scroll is a 1993 Japanese animated jidaigeki–chanbara film written and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri – who knew?

This piece (sorry about the glare, this wall is difficult to photograph) is stunning. It is so full of movement, and little pastiches from the film. I don’t know anything about Quale, but hope to see more in Bristol in the future.

6431. Cumberland Basin

Mr Klue, Cumberland Basin, Bristol, August 2024

This is Mr Klue a little outside his comfort zone, painting at a location other than St Werburghs tunnel. It would seem that he was somehow persuaded to venture away from BS2 to join in the World Wall Stylers challenge ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, and he has kept to the theme colours, although his writing isn’t especially on message.

Mr Klue’s writing can be difficult to read sometimes and you have to take it on trust that he usually writes KLUE, but in this piece it is much clearer and you can make out the letters quite easily. It is great to see that he has managed to get out into the sunlight before retreating to the comfort of his tunnel.

6394. Cumberland Basin

Sait Bare, Cumberland Bain, Bristol, August 2024

Painted as part of the World Wall Stylers ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ paint jam, this is an absolute beauty by Sait Bare, and possibly the best piece I have seen from the artist yet. Although there is no character, Sait Bare has adhered to the colour scheme, and thrown himself into the collaborative effort.

The colours are expertly blended with beguiling patterning running through the letters which spell out SAIT. There is a smoky, ephemeral feel to the whole piece, all very atmospheric. There is a bit of a juxtaposition between the wispy fills and the solid 3D drop shadow, but I think it comes together nicely.

6388. Cumberland Basin

Hire, Cumberland Basin, Bristol, August 2024

It is quite unusual to find a Hire piece outside the Dean Lane skate park area, but here he is joining in the fun with the World Wall Stylers ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ paint jam, and although his piece isn’t as overtly on-topic as most of the pieces, it is nonetheless a part of the whole wall.

The wonderfully crafted letters spell out HIRE, but I was sorely tempted to fib and say they spelled RABBIT. A feature I haven’t noticed about his work before is the long shadows that have been cast from the tips of his letters, which seem to lift the piece a little. This is a nice reversion to his more spiky style that sets him apart from other writers.

6380. Cumberland Basin

Zake, Noise and Drake, Cumberland Basin, Bristol, August 29024

This is another section of the incredible World Wall Stylers ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, paint jam from last month. I made a bit of a booboo with my photographs of this section, and have included the Jessica Rabbit character by Drake, on the right, and severed it from his piece of writing (to follow), But somehow I felt it worked better bookending the writing by Noise and Zake’s Baby Herman on the left. – this may have been a mistake.

Zake, Cumberland Basin, Bristol, August 29024

Zake has been producing cartoon characters for as long as I have been posting his work, but this is the first time I have seen a character based on an existing artwork. Rather than being a faithful reproduction of Baby Herman, this is very much a Zake take on the little cigarette-smoking infant. Very nicely done.

Noise, Cumberland Basin, Bristol, August 29024

Noise, as I have said countless times this year, is absolutely smashing it with every piece he paints, and this characteristic writing has very much adhered to the colours of the brief.

Drake, Cumberland Basin, Bristol, August 29024

Finally the character of Jessica Rabbit really ought to be attached to the writing of Drake to its right, but I goofed, so it is here with the Noise and Zake pieces creating a rather nice little Triptych. This particular paint jam proved to be a fabulous showcase of talent. Big ups to Participants and to World Wall Stylers.

Peanutsdeli, Cumberland Bassin, Bristol, August 2024

Who Framed Roger Rabbit was the theme for Chapter 16 of World Wall Stylers, and the Bristol graffiti writing and street art community went to town (toon town). This is a remarkable piece by Peanutsdeli, who doesn’t live in Bristol, but visits often enough to be part of the gang.

Peanutsdeli’s work adopts the manga cartoon style, and here he fuses that with characters from Roger Rabbit, with the chief protagonist himself and a manga Baby Herman. Peanutsdeli sticks to the brief really well in terms of content and colour, contributing fabulously to this wall.

6362. Dean Lane skate park (749)

Fade and Dibz, Dean Lane, Bristol, August 2024

You might have seen several references in the past to World Wall Stylers, and wondered what it is all about. Essentially, it is a global street art collaboration event, organised through Instagram, setting a theme which artists can adopt, paint and photograph, tagging @worldwallstylers in their own Instagram feeds. It is a way of showing off your style to a large urban art community and observing other artist’s impressions on the same theme. This month is chapter 16 of World Wall Stylers and the theme is the film ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’.

Fade and Dibz have collaborated in this Roger Rabbit piece in what I would call a fusion collaboration where both artists will have contributed to all parts of the piece, in spite of the letters spelling out FADE. The character in this piece was called Smart Guy, one of five weasel characters belonging to the Toon Patrol. Brilliant work from the pair and a prompt to dig out the movie and re-watch it sometime.

6353. Cumberland Basin

This is the first of a series of outstanding pieces from a collaborative paint jam prompted by World Wall Stylers with the theme of the film ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’. Although this piece by Ceus isn’t immediately theme related, it is when seen in the context of the whole wall (watch this space).

I haven’t seen very much from Ceus lately, so coming across this was a very pleasant surprise. Ceus has a gift for creating visually very attractive writing and has excelled himself with this piece. The green colour scheme (themed) looks really great on the black buffed wall, and Ceus has worked it well into his letters with some great colour transitions. Lovely work.

5784. Dean Lane skate park (682)

This sumptuous red and gold piece of graffiti writing is one half of a collaboration with Noise, which I posted a few days ago. The pieces were painted as a contribution to the World Wall Stylers theme for December. On reflection I perhaps should have posted the pieces together, but firstly I couldn’t capture both pieces in one photograph and secondly felt they both deserved to have a post of their own.

I met Werm a week or so back for the first time in a while and it was great to catch up. I like this piece a lot. Werm has started to simplify his work a little, and in my view that is a good thing, concentrating on the impact of the piece rather than its technical complexity. Sometimes less is more, and definitely it works in this instance. The colours go a long way to enhancing the quality of this one. Great stuff from Werm.
