7666. Brunel Way (357)

Lupa is Lupa. Her work comes straight out of the school of ‘what you see is what you get’, and I love it. There is an authenticity about her presentation, which can look a little scruffy around the edges sometimes, that gets to the heart and soul of graffiti writing in Bristol.

This piece features her characteristically chunky letters, filled with a nice combination of purple and mint green and some reversed out spots and lines. I believe that I have only met Lupa once – I think it was at the Cheltenham Paint Festival – but her artwork transmits positive vibes and a cheerful, carefree disposition. Conrico has had a productive year so far and in my view has been creating some of his best and most varied work, showing that within his unique ‘paintbrush’ style, he can conjure up exotic scenes, stunning portraits and throw in some writing too.

This is a wonderful piece that transitions between two perpendicular hoardings on the corner at the end of the Greenbank ‘wall’. Two cats, one on each board pose in front of a flaming background, and this cat looking backwards is accompanied by a tidy ‘CONRICO’ alongside it.

The second cat is walking towards the corner. There are two possible outcomes when these felines meet – familial recognition and love or a stand-off. They look like siblings to me, so I suspect the former outcome. A lovely story creatively told by Conrico. One for the cat-lovers.

7664. Cumberland Basin

Oust, Cumberland Basin, Bristol, April 2026

Boom! This is a banging piece of graffiti writing from Oust. Full of movement and positive vibes. Parts of the writing feel like they are reaching out from the wall, thanks to the depth of the 3D drop shadow and letter fills.

Set on a grey buffed wall, the blue and red colours are perfectly matched, with the fill variations of blue looking wonderful. The subtle grey and white bubbles around the perimeter of the piece accentuate the energy of the letters. A fine piece from Oust.

Vermo, Peel Street Green, Bristol, May 2026

I believe Vermo to be one of the most unusual graffiti writers I have come across. His letters are separated by space and appear as hovering ‘bubbles’ which are connected only by the void between them.

This technique lends itself very well to being slapped onto any wall, regardless of what already exists there, without the need to prep the wall or buff it. In this combination piece, the letters are accompanied by a little character pointing, in the bottom left-hand corner. There is white plasma bolt running across the piece, which at first glance might look a bit like the piece has been dogged, but it is definitely part of the composition. Something different from Vermo.

Minto, Sparke Evans Park, Bristol, May 2026

Minto has been out and about quite a lot this year, which is great to see, and recently he has turned out a couple of pieces on a black background, of which this is one, that introduce a whole new aspect to his work, bringing in all sorts of opportunities for contrasting colours.

The letters, heavily disguised, spell MINTO, and they are heavily augmented with colours, lines and shapes that almost give a ‘firework’ appearance to the piece. I can see at least two ephemeral characters in the piece, a bird’s head in the centre, and a head at the top right. There is so much to look at and discover i this fine piece of graffiti writing.

Dibz and Fade, Dean Lane, Bristol, May 2026

Here we have another classic combination collaboration from Dibz and Fade. Both artists will have been involved in the whole piece, but Dibz leading on the writing and Fade on the alligator characters.

The alligators are called Brutus and Nero and are taken from the Disney cartoon film, The Rescuers. This piece reflects the technical skill of the two artists in every aspect of its presentation, and it all feels so easy when these two get together, but it takes years of practice and abundant raw talent to be this good.

7655. Lime Road – Upfest 2026 (1)

Well, this year’s Upfest has crept up on me a little. I have been very busy and not had much headspace to recognise Europe’s largest street art festival which began last weekend, and will continue until the end of May 2026. This time the festival has been spread over three weekends and is rather fragmented, with no single festival focal point, which is a pity. This approach has been implemented to spread the crowds over a longer period and avoid some of the festival shenanigans that have caused a few problems for the council in the past. It is funny how they continue to allow the Harbourside Festival to operate, and which has a terrible reputation for antisocial behaviour, but curtail the much friendlier Upfest. Some unconscious bias at work methinks.

My opener for this year’s festival is this wonderful musing by #DFTE, the master of the thoughtful slogan and repairer of souls. His message this year is short and sweet “Today will be a good day” and for most festival visitors that is probably about right. It is worth having a little look at this charming gallery of his thoughtful work.

Mr Riks, St Werburghs, Bristol, April 2026

Although Mr Riks doesn’t paint all that often, it is always good to see his characteristic letter shapes appearing unannounced from spot to spot. This modest grey piece at the end of the tunnel almost passed me by, because I was chatting with Corupt on the opposite side of the tunnel.

It is quite difficult to make out from these pictures whether the piece is painted in chrome or grey or a combination of the two. It looks like two grey tones to me. The letters are nicely presented, and given a little bit of a lift with the application of some yellow edging with red spots.

Bloem is one of those artists who not only works hard at her craft, but is also naturally gifted. Her work has come on so quickly over the last couple of years, and although she doesn’t paint walls all that often, each piece feels like it is a step up from the previous one.

This wonderful piece depicts a hand with long finger nails gripping a train carriage formed of the letters BLOEM. A clever concept perfectly executed. That it is in greyscale makes it even more impressive as there is no colour to hide behind. An excellent and mature piece of work.

Dibz and Fade, Dean Lane, Bristol, April 2026

Dibz and fade have been knocking out collaborations with unstoppable pace recently, and I must confess it is stretching me just to be able to keep up with their activity.

This is an outstanding collaboration where both artists have contributed to the final offering. The letters spell addict, and I am guessing reflects their obsession with graffiti writing. A stunning fill and cosmic background show off their talent perfectly.
