Your team will play scores of matches every season whereas your national team may only play a handful every year so it’s totally understandable that you feel more for those you see more regularly . . .
I think here in England we are used to seeing world class players playing football in our country every week, and we get used to that, unfortunately almost all of those world class players come from anywhere but England.
When we see an English side devoid of serious world class talent and often looking like they’re just going through the motions it’s difficult to build up any real enthusiasm for them or the future of our national team . . .
Exactly that. There doesn’t seem to be any real creativity or panache. They are a team of grafters, steady, safe, grafters. And we really lack a world class striker (of course, I don’t consider Kane to be world class. There is a big difference between being top scorer and world class).
Kane isn’t anywhere near world class despite his goal tally for England.
I’ve always had hope that one day we could produce a side that has a mix of skill, hard work, panache, flair and excitement.
A team that one feels truly proud to support regardless of the end result.
A team of men.
I fear I will be waiting well into my grave . . .

I agree. I just find it so hard to love this England side, even with some Arsenal players at last. Maybe the World Cup will change this.
