281. Muller Road
This mural is deep in Zase country. Many of his works are on show in the neighbourhood, and recently this commission for the local veterinary practice has brightened up an otherwise drab wall. I suspect that business may have improved too.
These animals are beautifully painted, which is what we have come to expect from Zase designs. The animals are incredibly realistic, but seem to have a slightly cheeky cartoonish character about them. This is an artist at the top of his game.
He has also painted one of his trademark wildstyle burners, but I am unable to decipher it. He has dotted the whole piece with the words ‘love’, ‘compassion’ and ‘care’. All in all it is a wonderful community piece, and a local landmark.
277. Wilder Street (5)
Wilder Street is becoming one of the hottest spots for street art in North Bristol at the moment. Sandwiched between the the A38 and A4404 it is slightly off the beaten track and, for the time being, away from the main tagging areas, although I’m sure it won’t be long before they do their stuff here too.
I was surprised a few short weeks ago to find this lovely, and slightly eclectic, collaboration between T-Rex, Ryder and Aspire on the wall of a local small business. I haven’t yet featured any of T-Rex or Ryder’s work before, although I have seen a fair bit of it around. They tend to collaborate quite a lot, T-Rex usually spraying dinosaurs and Ryder writing his name. I don’t yet know very much about either of them, but will dig out more.
Aspire needs no introduction, and here he gives us one of his wonderful blue tits that he seems to favour. He is so prolific at the moment, that it is hard for me to post his most recent work. I have at least two more in the queue.
So we have three nice pieces, painted together, but I am not too sure how well they work together in the same space. Having said that, this is the kind of collaboration that makes the Bristol scene so special.
259. North Street, Workout (2)
It recently occurred to me that I am going to have to work through my backlog of Upfest 2015 pieces, because it will not be too long before they get replaced during the 2016 extravaganza and appear a little out of date. July 23-25 will see an influx of 300 artists showing off their talent, and I have to say I can’t wait. Among them will be Louis Masai, a London based artist who is renowned for his beautiful animal works.
Louis Masai gained an art degree from Falmouth in Cornwall, and has been living in London since 2010. More about him from his own website. This is a beautiful picture of two macaws (I seem to have posted a lot of these lately) and a clear and simple message that they belong in the wild and not in cages. I can go with that. His work is outstanding and his presence in Bristol this year will be a real bonus.

252. No fixed abode (1)
I caught sight of this caravan across the M32 while out for a walk last week. It had all the hallmarks of a work by Aspire, but it wasn’t until I downloaded the pictures onto my PC that I was able to see the signature.
When I see a piece like this, which I might add is another beauty, I am left with so many questions. Who lives in the caravan? How does Aspire know them? Was it a commission? and so on. This is an unusual and distinctive piece.

238. Wilder Street (3)
I knew it existed and was determined to find it and, a little by accident, I did. This Hyacinth Macaw is instantly recognisable as an Aspire piece and it is absolutely magnificent. He just seems to get better and better.
The work, which was completed at the beginning of May, absolutely captures the macaw perfectly and brings it to life. The peculiar stoop that macaws exhibit fits the space so well. This is a clever and absolutely outstanding piece. What next I wonder.
233. North Street, the Masonic Pub
I have taken many photographs of this magnificent parrot since it was created at last year’s Upfest (2015), but somehow I just haven’t made time to put together a post. It is a difficult piece to photograph because of the white space on the wall and from the sky, which tends to bleach the picture out a bit.
The magnificent piece is by Luis Seven Martins, also known as L7M. He is another artist from Sao Paolo in Brazil (a hotbed of street art talent). Born in 1988, he has been working on street art from the age of 13. He specialises in drawing birds using a mix of spray paint and acrylics. This parrot is a beauty and one of the outstanding pieces of Upfest 2015. His Facebook page is here.
