1917. Cumberland Basin

There has been something of a population explosion of bunnies in Bristol recently…it would seem that Nevergiveup Familia has balls of steel and will spray just about any inanimate object in the city.

These are two of his more recent additions from the Cumberland Basin, one on either side of the floating harbour. These two are slightly smaller than his usual door-sized bunnies and are sprayed on utility boxes.

I am definitely a fan and will post rabbits as I find them, but probably bunch them together as there are just so many.

1851. M32 Spot (31)

The M32 spot is a sprawling area of columns and walls underneath the M32 where skateboarders like to congregate when it is raining. The ramps and obstacles in this ‘unofficial’ skatepark are cobbled together by what I think is called DIY – a group of enthusiasts who create skating opportunities. It is also an area where street artists like to spray, and although turnover can be quite high, there are some pieces that have remained for ages and ages.

This piece, it will come as no surprise to you, is by NEVERGIVEUP or as he calls himself Nevergiveup Familia or NGU. It is one of his ever-multiplying rabbits, that really are hopping out of pretty much every piece of concrete in the city. This particular one is one of my favourites – the colours and his slight plumpness make him most endearing. This is not the last of his bunnies I will be posting here.

1838. Dean Lane skate park (175)

In Bristol we have a sizeable community of Polish street artists that between them manage to brighten up the city no end. Two of these, Hire and Nevergiveup have a thing for painting bunnies, and here is a reasonably recent one from Hire at Dean Lane. Recently Nevergiveup has opened an Instagram account called @followmyrabbits, and upped his game – I wonder if Hire is responding as this was one of three or four new ones by Hire.

These rabbits by Hire are always a little bit edgy or menacing and there is definitely a dark side to their characters. Nonetheless, I love coming across them, and they are a brilliant foil to his fabulous graffiti writing.

1822. The Bearpit (164)

I have left out quite a few rabbits by NEVERGIVEUP, not deliberately but just because there are so many of them everywhere. This is one from back in January in The Bearpit, at a time when artists were still coming down here and creating great art. Council interventions have been driving the good ‘legal’ artists away and now it is only taggers that tend to spray down here.

NEVERGIVEUP is very fond of his rabbits and has in fact recently set up a new Instagram account under the name @followmyrabbits in which he posts his work from around Bristol and far beyond. This is a nice gold one that lasted a long while.

1724. Dean Lane skate park (165)

Yeah, the bunny is back, not the NEVERGIVEUP bunny, but the Hire bunny. This rather dark bunny carries all the hallmarks of a Hire piece. The massive buck teeth and the angular Gothic shapes that make up the fur – much of his writing also uses this sharp-edged style.

I have a very soft spot for Hire’s work, both his rabbits and his writing – there is a seriousness and melancholy about them. I’d like to know what the speech bubble says, it is probably a Polish reference. Nice little tribute to CKone as well.

1611. The Bearpit (154)

This bunny by NEVERGIVEUP managed to avoid my eagle eyes and got lost in an archive. Sometimes I think this happens when I photograph a lot of pieces by the same artist in one session and have to spread out posting about them…and then they just get locked out, until I do a bit of an archive dive. Am I making any sense at all?

This Rabbit has the tripple treatment, three eyes, three teeth, three belly buttons, three crowns, but oddly four ears. You can look at the ears however as three pairs of ears. It is a nice variation on a theme that shows NGU is capable of mixing things up a bit.

1600. Moon Street (50)

So here he is again, same spot different rabbit. Not long ago I posted a lovely orange bunny by Nevergiveup in this exact gateway. He is such a busy artist that when he runs out of walls, he simply goes over one he has done before, buffing over his own work.

I have said it before on this blog that I love these creatures that he populates the city with, and at risk of becoming a bit repetative, I will continue to post them… because I can.

1532. River Avon

Regular readers will have seen an awful lot of this little fella in recent months and I make no apologies for that. Of all the bunnies that NEVERGIVEUP has painted around the city of Bristol I think that this one is my favourite to date.

It can be found on a random bit of brick wall, probably a derelict store room or something, on the footpath between Ashton Avenue Bridge and Brunel Way bridge alongsite the River Avon. I love it when Graffiti (a rather urban concept) blends in so perfectly with a rural setting. This is just brilliant.

1517. Moon Street (45)

Well you might be tired of NEVERGIVEUP’s bunnies, but I am not tired of posting them, and there are several more in the pipeline, so watch out. This one is in Moon Street and you might notice it is in good company with an old Laic217 piece on the left and work from Deamze on the right. The one on the left has recently been replaced, but the one on the right has been there for an age and really needs refreshing.

Given that he has done so many rabbits recently, I am left wondering if he will return to his monsters, or whether he’ll come up with something else. Whatever happens, his productivity and enthusiasm seems set to continue.

1501. East Street alley

Usually I curse bright sunlight and shadows when I am photographing street art, but on this occasion I think it adds to the picture. To me it feels like this blue bunny by NEVERGIVEUP is lurking or hiding in the doorway trying not to be found.

I would never have found this rather charming rabbit if I hadn’t run into NEVERGIVEUP when he was in Dean Lane skate park, prepping a wall, and struck up a conversation. He told me where this piece was in the context of a conversation during which I remarked on the fact that I liked the way he seems to spray absolutely everywhere in Bristol that he can find a wall, most other artists tend to stick to their favourite places. Bristol is becoming a bit of a warren to NEVERGIVEUP’s bunnies, which is a good thing.
