A quick one today, written late last night because we are on our way to Milton Keynes today for a family gathering. This superb Halloween collaboration from Andy Council and Ulow was part of the celebration paint jam for Minto’s birthday.

To the left is an amazing wizard hat by Andy Council, made up of a spooky graveyard scene. There is so much detail in this piece, but it is suffering a little from the low light levels in the tunnel. Next to the hat is a menacing pumpkin character by Ulow, which is the perfect Halloween monster. Both pieces are outstanding and a fitting tribute to Minto.
I am in a conference all day today, and only twigged late last night, so I am writing this yesterday in a bit of a rush. Halloween has been well-observed by several Bristol artists this year, and this beauty by Kool Hand was painted alongside a cartoon pumpkin by Werm.

Kool Hand has gone for an orangutan – pumpkin mash-up and absolutely delivered the goods. The toothy character is nicely painted with superb solid fills and confident thick black outlines. A perfect piece for the square concrete slab.

Last year I managed to catch up with The Art of Sok several times, and it seems that the artist crossed the border several times to paint in Bristol. This year his visits have been less frequent, but he has definitely left his mark, not least with this stunner for Dibz’ birthday.

I wasn’t expecting too many Halloween pieces this year, but as it turned out, there were quite a few. (Note to self – do a Halloween gallery). The Art of Sok has created the perfect pumpkin character painted in his outstanding cartoon style. Everything is superbly balanced and the fills and borders immaculate. This is cartoon character street art at its very best. Bravo!
Another quick one. It is easy to forget, from his superb graffiti writing portfolio, that Werm, when he first started, used to paint a lot of characters, so to see him paint this excellent Halloween pumpkin character shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

The concrete slab is the perfect shape for this piece, and is beautifully framed by its surroundings. The artwork itself is very neat and tidy, with brilliant depth created in the teeth especially. A very nice pumpkin piece.
It is not often that I post Halloween pieces in time for the festival, but fortunately this one by Rowzgraff was painted a little while ago and has made it through my pipeline process just in time. I am not familiar with the artist, who I believe was painting alongside Lis and Ozuk.s in a mini paint jam on the swimming pool wall in Dean Lane.

The Halloween piece is nicely worked with the letters ROWZ incorporating a happy pumpkin and a wizard’s hat. The whole piece is set on a starry night sky – just the thing to get you into the mood for tomorrow night. There will be more Halloween pieces to share, but they won’t feature here for a little while, such is the backlog.

This is a wonderful production wrap-around Halloween piece from Dibz and Fade. In fact this is the second time that the pair have bookended their former tribute collaboration with Jody and Acer One, to musician and DJ Randall. The central portrait by Jody and letters from Acer One have remained intact each time.

To the left Fade has painted a wonderful combination piece, along with Jody, with the letters FDE either side of a creepy pumpkin character. The purple, black and green colours together with the pumpkin orange are commonly used in Halloween pieces.

The pumpkin is super-fierce and beautifully painted by Jody (thank you Paul H for your unflinching reminders that I completely missed this) with the light overflowing from the lantern and spilling onto the floor and spelling out the crew letters THK. Clever stuff.

To the right, Dibz has similarly created a combination piece, but his character is a cartoon-style Grim Reaper, altogether less threatening than his pumpkin partner. The letters offer up wildstyle writing at its best, and contrasts somewhat with the comic character, but as ever, Dibz gets the two to work well together.

Overall a superb seasonal augmentation of an existing collaboration.
Sled One has made a few appearances on Natural Adventures recently, but this Halloween piece, painted on 30 October, trumps the lot of them. It isn’t often that this whole wall is painted – lots of ladder-work, so when it is you can expect something pretty special.

The piece is painted on a jaunty angle, which is unsettling in itself. The backdrop is a gloomy street scene, with cars dimply lit under some street lights. The star of the piece is the scary pumpkin character, the unconventional shape of which adds to the sense of unease and edge. Shaped like a skull, the melting pumpkin face is dropping seeds like teeth falling out, and resembles the lanterns left out to rot after the Halloween festival itself. A wicked piece that doesn’t give in to the sentimental portrayal of a pumpkin, but turns it into an evil protagonist.
I usually associate Dun Sum with the spot in Lawrence Weston (L Dub), because that is where I have seen most of his work, but lately he has painted a couple of times in Bristol proper, this being a Halloween piece painted alongside Hypo, Zeks and DJ Perks. Unfortunately, by the time I got there, Hypo had already overpainted his own piece. I was lucky enough to bump into Dun Sum, Hypo and Zeks a couple of weeks later on the other side of the roundabout, and it was the first time I had met any of them. What lovely people.

Dun Sum is a wonderful artist in my view. He creates some incredibly original pieces usually with animals and usually full of imagination. In this Halloween piece, a bug of sorts seems to be powering up a pumpkin, but I guess the story is open to interpretation. The artwork is brilliant, and it is interesting to note that the way Dun Sum applies his paint looks much more like brushwork than spray paint due to the way he blends his colours throughout his work. I absolutely love this piece.
I am happy this year that I have done Halloween justice, which is not always the case. This piece on the not-so-long-anymore hoarding at Greenbank is by occasional visiting artist Olek McBolek, who has painted on this stretch once or twice before, which is impressive given that his locations listed on Instagram are Glasgow and Berlin. I imagine he has friends in Bristol.

This is a really good Halloween piece combining the emblematic and obligatory pumpkin sitting above a mass of skeleton remains, which have been very well painted and represented. There is a strong and confident style here that reflects an artist in full control. The letters spell S8E, commonly adopted in his work, although I don’t know what they mean. A pleasant surprise find.
Mr Draws has been working really hard to push the boundaries of his work and producing more of these art pieces alongside his familiar writing. This Pumpkin piece was painted recently to celebrate Halloween, and captures the atmosphere of the festival perfectly. Mr Draws does like to celebrate festival dates, such as Halloween and Christmas.

This newish technique or presentation style by Mr Draws creates an atmospheric background as a ‘canvas’ for his subject, in this case the pumpkin. It is effective and fits Mr Draws’ rather unconventional style perfectly. I am led to believe that we can expect many more pieces like this by Mr Draws in the future.
