I enjoy observing new artists who try to break out onto the scene, and after all, all graffiti/street artists have to start somewhere. As they progress, they will make mistakes, both in their art, and equally importantly regarding etiquette. Even I fall foul of this from time to time – there are codes and principles, even if there are ‘no rules’. On this occasion, Seed painted his large letters recently, over a beauty by Werm. Generally speaking you shouldn’t paint over something that you are not equal to or better than, and Seed isn’t yet at Werm’s level. The logical consequence is that you end up with only high-end pieces on all walls, and that is where taggers and bombers come in, freeing up walls to be painted again.

Seed is learning gradually, and improves from piece to piece, but his work is still rather crude. His letters here are large and square, and his 3D drop shadow missing on the bottom of them. He is experimenting with some plasma lines to break up the large swathes of pink. He has also included a little cartoon-style character, completing the combination piece. Keep practicing and perhaps stick to practice walls for the time being.

Seed is working really hard to make an impression on the Bristol street art scene. He is being brought on by Zinso and Asre and often paints alongside Seam and Bogz. It has been a long while since these walls have been painted, and with any luck others will follow in Seed’s footsteps.

Above the large lettered piece Seed has written ‘Look mum I am a doctor’, which is rather touching and fun, and his letters include the DR letters in front. The whole piece is a little crude, but as I said before, I think that Seed is a diamond in the rough, and if he keeps on practising, he will go far. A bright and bold piece.
After a couple of very busy days in London, and returning to Bristol late last night, we had a lie in thin morning, the likes of which we haven’t had for many years. What that means of course is that I have to write today’s posts in record time because we have a ton of pre-Christmas jobs to do today.

Seed is working really hard to make his mark on the graffiti writing scene. He has hooked up with Asre and Zinso, who will be able to guide him and teach him a few tricks along the way. I have met him only once, but his ambition and desire to improve were clear. This is a rather nice piece with large overlapping letters in a combination of greens. The lower part, I think has incorporated the artwork of the previous occupant of the spot, which fortunately is in complementary greens. Keep your eyes peeled for more from Seed.

One of the rewarding aspects of photographing and recording street art in Bristol is watching on as new artists begin their journey and then develop their style and improve their technique. Some never quite make the grade, but others clearly have the determination and desire to progress, and some reach levels they might have never expected. I met Seed a couple of weeks back, and he told me he had only started graffiti writing a few weeks earlier. Since then, I have seen his work appearing all over the place. This is the first post of his work on Natural Adventures, but I very much anticipate it won’t be the last.

What we see here is potentially a diamond in the rough. Seed has opted for large letters – I’m not quite sure the capital ‘Es’ are the easiest letters to start with, but I guess they present a challenge. The colour selection is good, and that yellow certainly attracts attention. The black 3D drop shadow is a little overpowering and needs refining, but the fills are OK, and the dotted decorations certainly improve the piece. Planning a wall is a really important part of graffiti writing, and Seed has left himself a bit short on the right-hand side, a mistake he is unlikely to repeat. Watch out from more from Seed over the coming weeks and months.
