I have driven past this piece countless times on my way to Temple Meads station, and always meant to stop for a couple of pictures, but I only got round to it about a month ago…it sometimes happens you know.

The innovative collaboration is by Acer One and Andy Council, who have done so many collaborative pieces in recent years, and rarely produce anything other than outstanding work. The piece is entitled Hybrid, and I am guessing that it is a reference to their different styles working together. The collaboration feels a bit like a half-finished page from a colouring in book, and I wonder whether Andy Council has considered producing a colouring book… on this evidence he could probably create a whole new income stream.

Accidental finds are often the most rewarding, and to come across a mural of this size that I had no idea existed was a particular joy. Farrah has painted commissions all over Bristol, and her unique brand of abstract brush stroke pieces are becoming another established feature of the Bristol USP.

This end of terrace wall was sponsored by Park Insurance, for which we are all grateful I’m sure. Farrah, in her Instagram feed, talks about the importance of trees that give us “shelter, stability, food, water and oxygen”. Trees give us a whole lot more, including habitats for wildlife, food, carbon storage and an enormous sense of wellbeing. Although this tree mural can’t provide all of those things, it can certainly help to remind us how important trees are.

Farrah has expertly crafted the tree and some of the creatures in it, such as the squirrel, using her attractive brush stroke style that seems so effortless when you watch videos of her at work. It is a technique that she has perfected and seems to be taking to a higher level all the time. This is a piece definitely worth seeking out if you happen to be in the St George area of Bristol.

As I mentioned last week in a post featuring Acer One’s tribute to Dring (a friend to many in the Bristol street art community) there would be other tribute pieces out there, and this one is of them, by 3Dom.

It feels like an age since I last posted anything by 3Dom, so I am assuming that he must be busy with ‘real life’ at the moment, but he has managed to find time to paint this beautifully crafted tribute. The letters are stunningly presented, with an atmospheric fill, all topped off with a bright yellow star on the ‘i’. It feels like Dring will be sorely missed.

Kool Hand has been a steady presence on the streets of Bristol in recent months, and each time his work is improving and diversifying. This dog character was recently painted in the St Agnes tunnel of the M32 roundabout alongside Daz Cat and Zake.

Although relatively simple in design, this character has been perfectly finished. The fills are solid, the feature lines add interest and depth and the border is very clean. Set on an interesting orange buffed background, the piece stands out clearly. There are a few nice bubbles too, filling the blank space.

I have a feeling that 2023 will be a year in which we see Mote reach a new level. The artist is already turning out pieces at a phenomenal rate, and his character compositions are becoming more sophisticated. What will be interesting is to see where all this goes this year, and I can’t wait to see it unfold.

This is another piece with a pair of characters connected via an upturned crown (a motif that Mote is fond of). The characters are also connected by a reverse colour scheme, so there is definitely a story being told in the piece. As always, Mote has kept the fills strong, with all the borders and detail lines clean and tight. A fine pair under Brunel Way.

I sincerely hope that we will be treated to a whole load more EVEN pieces by Evey this year, as I think she is one of the most improved artists during 2022. The more she paints the better she will get, and we are already seeing signs of more adventure in her work.

This is a lovely piece from a recent RBF paint jam (there were two in quick succession) which has been finished very tidily. The five horizontal fills work nicely, and the borders and highlights are neat and tidy, bar a few yellow drips, which are rather nice. All in all a very pleasing piece of graffiti writing from Evey.

Not very far away from where I live is this magnificent new mural, which I only became aware of when I was doing a little Christmas shopping. The mural captures so much of why I love living in this city. It is not only a big bold piece, but it is a big bold statement too – ‘the free city of Bristol’, which tells you a lot about the independent sentiment that Bristolians have.

The mural is a collaboration between DNT, Tymb and Mr Klue. I know the work of DNT and Mr Klue intimately, but have not encountered Tymb before. The decorative border is the work of DNT, I would think, and the castle is probably by Mr Klue. The fact that it is uncertain who painted what makes this piece in my eyes a true collaboration between the artists, where their work merges. A piece to be proud of.

One of the busiest and possibly most impactful graffiti artists in Bristol last year was Klashwhensober. His pieces filled the silent pauses and gaps, such as they were, and it was hard to go visiting the regular spots, without seeing something new by him. I think this piece was painted in two sessions, because I photographed it a few days before I saw the final version and it was only half done, and I wondered at the time whether he had been disturbed, or whether he ran out of paint or light.

Anyhow, the final artwork is superb and his constant practice is without doubt paying off. There is something rather atmospheric about his recent pieces, and he seems to enjoy creating a bit of a narrative, rather than just presenting straight letters. The letters SOBER are being sliced through by green plasma bolts bursting out of the dark blue cloudy background. Lovely letter forms and fills and drop shadows round the piece off really well. I have so many more pieces to share with you from Klashwhensober.
