Asre is back! Back from what or where, I don’t know, but it is great to see his reappearance after an absence of three long years. This piece was tucked away behind the hedge on the swimming pool wall at Dean Lane, a wall that has had quite a high turnover of late and where there always seems to be something new to enjoy.

Unusually, this is a piece of writing from Asre, who is better known for his character faces. Everything is very neat and tidy. Some great colourful fills, clean letters, and two sharp borders, one black and one white. I very much hope that this signals more from Asre – I already have at least one other new piece to share. Welcome back!

Cheo and Dibz, Dean Lane, Bristol, August 2025

This wall has hosted some utterly outstanding pieces over the years, and this combination collaboration from Dibz and Cheo is right up there with the very best of them. The first thing to notice about this wonderful piece is just how neatly it has been executed and how well it stands out on the black background.

The comic character, painted by Cheo is holding up a small board on which Dibz has written his name – it is a brilliantly clever way to present a character and graffiti writing together in a contextual storytelling scenario. There are so many details in the collaboration to enjoy, such as the signature bee, the laminate wooden board peeling and drips from the letters, and my favourite bit, the plaster on the character’s nose. Pure genius from Dibz and Cheo.

Benjimagnetic, Dean Lane, Bristol, July 2025

Benjimagnetic I would describe very much as an occasional painter these days, but his pedigree is flawless and the works he turns out are unique and well presented. This is a recent one from the artist and spells out GRO, I think.

I have said many times about Benjimagnetic’s work that it is as much to do with the spaces between his lines as it is with the lines and shapes themselves. He is less about fills and more about geometry, although he manages to blend in some gently fills into parts of this piece. The small writing says “The izmz of iz and iznts” a new EP from the artist. An all-round artistic talent.

Awkward, Dean Lane, Bristol, August 2025

After quite a long fallow period, Awkward has popped up once again, spurred on by Benjimagnetic, it would appear. His character pieces are so distinct and have a slightly sinister quality to them, with crazy big eyes, a skeletal nose and zigzag line mouth.

The blue-faced character looks like he is wearing a Cheech Wizard hat, the character created by underground comic artist Vaughn Bode, and firm favourite with graffiti artists. The speech bubble contains the word Awkward and performs the role of signature for the piece, as if a signature is needed for Awkward’s work. A lovely piece.

Cort is an elusive artist, painting as part of the PAD crew which includes Laic217 (what has happened to him?) and Trafficity amongst others in the Polish street art community. His style is really distinctive, and at times his work is exceptional.

This is a rather tidy piece that looks like a bit of a sketch, painted or drawn with black and red biros (ball point pens) and a blue fountain pen. The letters are irregular in shape and size, but the whole word conforms to a specific height throughout. Set on a creamy background, the lettering looks rather good to me. I like this piece.

Hemper has had an interesting year so far, at one point there was no stopping him, producing multiple pieces in multiple styles, after which he went a little quiet, but recently he has returned with another burst of energy and a short-form theme to his lettering, of which this piece is typical.

The cartoon-style letters, spelling HEMS, are made rather more cartoony with the inclusion of character features in the ‘E’ and ‘S’. What sets this apart from other similar pieces of writing is that it oozes class, confidence and experience, from the yellow spiky splash background to the sharp black and white borders. There are only a few artists who can carry off small pieces like this with such perfection.

Dirtygypo, Dean Lane, Bristol, July 2025

Wow! This colourful piece by Dirtygypo is difficult not to notice. The letters are splashed with so many colours and great shapes, accompanied by lightening bolts and crowns. The piece is a single-handed festival. I would describe it as a combination piece, as the character at the start is rather well-developed, and adds fun and mischief to the whole piece.

I have pretty much given up trying to work out what the letters spell, despite many attempts. I can see so many letters and words, but would need to confirm with the artist, who I haven’t yet met. Today I am going for the obvious and guess that it says DIRTY.

It is always a great pleasure for people like me, who spend a bit of time looking for and critiquing street art, when an artist floods the streets with their work, and Zinso has certainly done that in June and July this year.

This is a really nice piece of graffiti writing set on a great splash of blue, masking the underlying graffiti. The light cream letters are nicely shaped with a red border and deeper red drop shadow. The colour combinations are superb. Although I posted a couple of pieces by Zinso a few years ago, his new lease of life has been a revelation.

Scrapyardspec, Dean Lane, Bristol, July 2025

I get the feeling that Scrapyardspec might have moved to or near Bristol, or he is visiting more often these days, because barely a week goes by when I don’t discover a new piece by him.

This googly-eyed character is nestled neatly on the side of one of the ramps in the Dean Lane skate park, known locally as The Deaner. Perhaps the most notable thing about this piece is the green wibbly tongue, which I would estimate appears in about half of all his character pieces.

Dibz and Fade, Dean Lane, Bristol, July 2025

I was lucky enough to come across Dibz and Fade while they were painting this beautiful collaboration and was given a small insight into some of their colour choices over the last year. It turns out that they are only now finishing off the paint that they were given by Goldie for his wall of fame at Ikea last year. Amazing really that he gave them so much and that it has lasted this long.

This stacked collaboration required quite a lot of ladder work, and seeing the work in progress gives some sense of scale. Fade is working on his letters, bottom left and Dibz is up the latter. I guess I’ll have top forgive them for the brown background, which works well with the flame colours used in the letters, although an extra coat might have helped in one or two spots.

Overall, the twin collaboration is yet another demonstration of their extraordinary talent. I particularly like the green splats, giving the whole thing a bit of vibrancy and movement.
