I really haven’t seen enough from these two of late. I guess that both of them are pretty busy with real life, and that happens, but it means that the class they both bring to the streets of Bristol is missed. This collaboration from 3Dom and Sepr also included the beautiful FOIS writing from Kleiner Shames (already posted).

On the left is a superb example of 3Dom’s superb writing style, including an eye character that looks to have dropped from the sky. There is a fluidity and confidence that oozes from 3Dom’s work, and just by looking at it, you can tell that it has been crafted by a master at the top of his game.

Sepr brings with his some of the best character work in the city/country. His unique style is instantly recognisable and more often than not humorous. In this piece, a skeleton is out walking his skeleton dog, who has run off, pulling his forearm away with him. Great fun. A measure of the quality of this piece is the care and attention given to the bead lead, which in close-up is meticulously painted. What a great collaborative wall, well worth a look.

Kool Hand is another artist who has been keeping things ticking over nicely pretty much for the last year. His characters have been diversifying a little over that time and new favourites have emerges, like the dog in this piece. There was a time when his work was almost entirely confined to orangutans and crocodiles.

The letters KH are book-ended  with two characters, his trusty orangutan wearing a cap on the left and a toothy dog on the right. Both characters have wings, although I am not sure of the significance of this addition. The colour scheme has focussed on blues, and works really rather nicely. The piece was painted as part of a larger paint jam a few weeks back.

Kool Hand has been a steady presence on the streets of Bristol in recent months, and each time his work is improving and diversifying. This dog character was recently painted in the St Agnes tunnel of the M32 roundabout alongside Daz Cat and Zake.

Although relatively simple in design, this character has been perfectly finished. The fills are solid, the feature lines add interest and depth and the border is very clean. Set on an interesting orange buffed background, the piece stands out clearly. There are a few nice bubbles too, filling the blank space.

One of the key differences between street art in Bristol and street art in Porto is the walls to paint on. In Bristol, most of the walls are brick, rendered, shutters, containers or hoarding. In Porto, sun-bleached stone walls and breeze block walls are favoured by artists, although commissions tend to be on rendered walls, much like at home.

This is a lovely piece by Fedor (a street artist and graffiti writer from Porto), fringed with some Costah paste ups to its left. The wise old dog is beautifully painted and the mastery of working with a spray can, can be seen in the dog’s nose, with three shades (like a stencil) providing texture and depth. A lovely and slightly weathered piece.

Character pieces don’t come much better than this remarkable dog, wrapped up in its lead. Sepr is the greatest. What makes this truly outstanding, figuratively and literally is the application of the shadow of the character. It is so sharp and crisp, and completely accurate, mirroring all aspects and details of the dog.

This would have to go down as one of my favourite pieces of the year, and that is saying something as it has been something of a special year. It may be small and ‘simple’ but it is technically and visually a masterpiece. Bravo Sepr!

It would seem that after a rather dormant spell over the summer, Daz Cat is becoming a little more active again, and his pieces are definitely moving more in the direction of narratives than straightforward portraits of cats and dogs.

In this column piece, under the M32, a cat, with a fox curled up on its head is holding a little dog and is standing next to a chicken with a frog on its head. Don’t ask what the story here is, I wouldn’t know where to begin. I prefer to enjoy the spectacle and the elements that make it up. Another fabulous us piece from Daz Cat.

It is impossible to imagine the Cheltenham Paint Festival without a piece by local artist DFC1848, and more impossible to imagine that I wouldn’t post it, so here for you is his excellent piece from this year.

I won’t drone on about how much DFC1848’s work has developed over the years, other than to say that it has developed over the years. The fun piece featuring a cartoon shark and dog (and another unknown consumed creature in the mouth of the shark) is clean, sharp and colourful. A really fabulous piece and great example of this cartoon-style genre.
