Well another weird and wonderful creation from Stupid Stupid Meathole this time on the M32 roundabout. This piece is similar to one he sprayed in Dean Lane but somehow looks a little better in this environment…maybe it is the wall itself that helps it to stand out.
I like his work very much, even if it is a little peculiar. There is some good humour underlying the grotesque nature, but most of all it is utterly unlike anything else on the Bristol scene at the moment. Original work.
Well this pasteup is a little out of the ordinary, and not something I would immediately associate with Object…, but it is a reasonably recent piece from this Bristol (Stokes Croft) based artist which appeared with one or two others in The Bearpit.
I would probably not like to delve too deeply into what is going on here, frankly it all looks a little bit scary. Regulars will know that I love a good wheatpaste, and this one certainly stands out with its arresting subject and exaggerated features. And what large teeth you have grandma…
This was a truly sublime piece that went up in Raleigh Road back in July this year, a little while before Upfest. It is always great to see dog street art, and this piece is a real treat. It is by Nilko White, a french artist from Paris, who I guess was taking a trip to the UK and teamed up with some local artists, maybe Hempster (the writing to the right of the dog) and found this hoarding to decorate.
It is a really great piece and quite different from much of the stuff we see in Bristol. It took me a while to find out who the artist was but Instagram (as is so often the case) came to the rescue. I’m not too sure what the Staffordshire terrier is about, but there is a story here. Maybe these are dogs the artist knows. A refreshing piece.
I am spending a little time trawling through my archives and posting some pictures that I always intended to post, but just never got round to. It is one of the major problems with writing about street art…there is always too much to cover. Even writing two posts a day only really scratches the surface.
This piece by Sweet Toof has been on the high wall by the PRSC outdoor gallery for years – even when I took the picture it was long in the tooth (pun intended). His style is one of the most distinctive of all, and I strongly recommend that you take a look at his Instagram feed which is just brilliant and always entertaining. Sweet Toof is based in London, but seems to spend a lot of time in mainland Europe, he even has his own Wikipedia entry.
I think that NEVERGIVEUP is taking on the mantle of most prolific graffiti artist in Bristol at the moment. Hardly a day goes by without a new piece by him, and he is starting to branch out a little from his buck toothed bunnies, although there is some incorporation of them in this piece.
I’m not sure what is happening in this piece, a pyramid, an all seeing eye and I have no idea what the swirly things are. The piece as a whole has presence though and is really well executed. His work is getting better and more diverse with each outing.
Interestingly he would seem to be gaining respect in an area that gets very heavily tagged…this piece has survived intact for a couple of weeks.
Well here is another weekly dose of Laic217. This piece is from a short while back and can be found at the city farm end of the St Werburghs tunnel, although turnover there is so rapid that it might have gone by now.
This piece bears some resemblance to his larger work in the Dean Lane skate park, and has something of the grotesque about it. Drug culture seems to play a large part in Laic217’s pieces and it looks like this pink individual is smoking weed. Not the most beautiful piece you will see, but all part of the broad and imaginative portfolio of this artist.
Recently I posted the iconic Bristol work by Rowdy and Sweet Toof on the top levels of the Carriageworks in Stokes Croft. Sweet Toof, although his early history is not clear, either came from, or spent some time in Bristol. There is quite a lot of work dotted around the city, all of it bearing the hallmark pink gums and teeth.
This piece is a small one on a garage door tucked away in Montpelier. His work is so unique, and slightly weird if I am honest. I thoroughly recommend a look at his Instagram account to see how versatile he is in the way he applies his themed approach. I will hunt down some more of his work. All good fun stuff.
