I really enjoy these occasional collaborations from Daz Cat and Kool Hand, who have been teaming up for several years now. Their creations are steadily becoming more sophisticated and intricate as each of the artists improves and develops.

Both artists have created characters on hoverboards, cruising through a deep red, starlit sky. Kool Hand has a crocodile on a ‘Silver Surfer’ kind of board and Daz Cat has painted an elaborate Ms cat with loads of detail in the face and clothing. The whole thing is an effective and atmospheric work, creating an exciting and dynamic scene.

Haka is making the most out of his enjoyment of children’s books by Janet and Allan Ahlberg, recreating illustrations from some of their best known titles. This cheeky character is Burglar Bill.

Haka has recreated this piece lovingly from the book and captured the character perfectly. I think that it is really cool that the artist is channelling his bedtime stories with his creative energy and gifting us with these fun and engaging pieces. We, in Bristol, are truly blessed.

It was while she was finishing off this piece that I met Bnie for the first time, and I was genuinely very pleased to at last make her acquaintance. I had seen her painting once or twice before, but hadn’t spoken with her. This time I was able to ask her about her work, and during the course of our discussion, she told me that she was the organiser of these boards, hosted on the side of Lost Horizon arts centre, where she also works.

This wonderful piece, sort of sign-writing, is a slight departure for Bnie, but perfectly executed. The patterns surrounding the ‘Know your worth’ writing perhaps give Bnie away a little bit, but if I am honest, If I hadn’t been there (and signed it) when I visited, I’m not certain I would have spotted it as a Bnie piece.

It is always, always a pleasure to find Merny pieces… he is one of my favourite artists in Bristol, always coming up with pieces that have a story to tell, and this one at the entrance of the tunnel is no exception.

Unlike many other Merny pieces, this one has remained untagged and intact for a week or two now, which is great news for those that don’t get an opportunity to see his creations. The message here is ‘don’t throw the baby out with the bath water’, but what it refers to I am not quite sure. The naive illustration is full of colour and movement and leaves little to the imagination.

The right-hand side of the piece is a little bit of extra abstract work, and I am not entirely sure what it is about. There is a nice colour transition, and the shapes are quite pleasing. I wondered if it was finished, or whether Merny was simply using up some paint and having a bit of fun. As a whole, I like this wall, but of course I would, because I am a bit of a fan.

It is quite by accident, but wholly appropriate, that I should follow up a piece by Bnie with a piece by Evey. The two artists are part of the RBF crew and often paint alongside one another.

I consider this to be Evey’s best piece that I have seen so far. The green palette set on the red background works exceptionally well and makes it difficult not to notice the piece. Large bold letters, filled with a clever array of greens and a thick black 3D border combine well. There are some nice sharp lines, in particular at the base of the first ‘E’ and the white highlight is subtle, but helps to lift the letters. Upwards and onwards… it is great to watch on at the improvement as it happens.

I met Bnie properly for the first time last week, and it was great to be able to put a face to a name, and to get to know a little bit more about her art and her other work. It was a pleasurable experience, and I hope the first of many, which seems likely as she is painting noticeably more often these days.

This piece in Dean Lane from earlier in September, is a classic piece of Bnie writing. Beautifully proportioned letters, six colour slices faded expertly, and her trademark 3D shadow, this time with straight bars, rather than her usual patterning. This is a very nice piece of writing, from an artist who is taking things up a notch.

This is another offering from the Dean Lane Hardcore (DLH) event a couple of weeks ago, and is an unusual collaboration between T-Rex, Ryder, Conrico and Kool Hand, which makes the whole thing rather special. Entitled ‘All skaters are b*stards’, the collaboration is clearly poking a bit of fun at skaters, at what is at its heart a skating event.

T-Rex that’s us to one of her classic dinosaurs, with a flying pig in a frying pan overhead by Ryder.  Conrico has reproduced one of his classic Bugs Bunny pieces with the inclusion of a skate board (see below), and the collaboration is hounded off with a Kool Hand Orangutan. The whole piece is a bit of an eclectic gathering, but utterly appropriate for the event. Great to see.

Anything by DJ Perks is always welcome on Natural Adventures and this slightly different piece of writing from DJ Perks was a nice surprise in the tunnel a couple of weeks ago.

It took a few moments to register what the letters said (tunnel) and who it was by, as I am more used to seeing The letters PERKS. This is more than decent writing, nicely filled and presented with a neat and tidy border. Good to see DJ Perks painting in the tunnel.
