3046. M32 roundabout J3 (227)

I believe that this is the penultimate piece from the magnificent Poland v Spain paint jam from back in May and it is by Spanish artist @clara_que_sssnoh. Blimey, that’s a mouthful and is the artist’s Instagram handle… I am not sure what other name he goes by, but that is most certainly unwieldy.

The piece itself is yet another outstanding work of writing, and I think that this whole wall was possibly the best show of graffiti writing here in one go for a considerable time. The letters are nice and regular with some great features in the fills. I hope to see more from the artist, but only when I know his name.

One thing you know for sure is that when you find a piece by Subtle, you know it is going to be an absolute cracker, and this one is a cracker with a cherry on the top. It was painted during a paint jam a week or so back alongside so many other great Bristol artists, and is the first piece I have seen from him since the start of lock down.

The colours, fill, decorations and 3D shading contrast really well and contribute to this vibrant and feisty work. I’m not sure what ‘outsiders gents club’ refers to, but it is probably a reference to the fellow paint jammers on the day. Like the rest of us, Subtle has been impacted by coronavirus and has mentioned it on his last couple of pieces.

3036. M32 Cycle path (64)

Another artist who has been pretty busy since the end of May is Taboo, and his ‘new school’ work is really rather quirky and organic. The central part of this piece looks like a standard throw up, and then it has a dynamic and beautifully painted character incorporated into the work, almost as it it were by two artists – something Taboo does very well.

I really don’t like this hoarding at all though. It is at the start of the M32 cycle path, and the large sky above it makes photography, without flaring, almost impossible. Dull days or dusk are probably the best times to come down to this spot.

Back to the piece ‘landed in the wrong dimension’, Taboo has painted an incredible Mickey Mouse figure with a surreal distortion to the top of his head that circles round into the A of TABOO. There is something edgy and unsettling about the whole thing, challenging the familiar. Great work.

3032. M32 Cycle path (63)

There are some artists whose work I enjoy finding more than others. Is that normal? I guess it is. It doesn’t mean I don’t like the others, on the contrary I pretty much tend to like them all, but some just some give me that special feeling of excitement for whatever reason. One of these artists is Daz Cat.

I found this unusual piece on the M32 cycle path next to one from painting companion Kool Hand. This cat looks a little worse for wear, judging from his expression and the long neck is a clever mechanism for getting the whole thing into a landscape format. Some lovely touches on the cat’s jumper and an all-round winning piece.

I can’t remember when I last saw a new piece from Ments, but it is quite some time ago. The word I always use to describe his work is ‘organic’ and it most definitely applies to this recent piece on the M32 roundabout.

This is a delicate piece that feels rather ephemeral, and is so unlike the work of more conventional graffiti writers. It is quite hard to make out the letters MENTS, but I assure you they are there. This is an accomplished piece painted with great skill, however it isn’t my favourite work by the artist, something feels a little unbalanced about it… I am though, being hyper-critical because it is actually very, very good.

The artist I miss the most when he hasn’t hit a wall for a while is Kid Crayon. There is something about his work and that it was seeing his wheatpastes in 2015 that drew me into appreciating street art in the first place that has created a special place in my heart for KC’s work.

This is a typically wonderful piece from a recent paint jam at the M32 roundabout. The big bold letters are interrupted with a pyramid and an all-seeing-eye for an A. This in itself is terrific, but the character’s face and hand emerging or sinking into flat calm water is pure magic.

The party hat, a signature element of KC’s recent works, is silly and fun, setting the whole thing off perfectly. Kid Crayon’s work is nearly always fun and engaging, bringing a smile to faces.

3019. M32 roundabout J3 (223)

Yet another outstanding piece from the Poland v Spain paint jam at the end of May, although this one is by an artist who appears frequently on Natural Adventures, but you are more likely to know him for his charming Rabbits. It is of course Nevergiveup AKA #followmyrabbits AKA NGU AKA in this case Zbok. I expect he has several other personas from the past too.

The only way to desribe this piece of writing is utter class, I mean it really is outstandingly beautiful and crafted with such precision and care. This is from an artist who is immensely versatile and creative.

If you look carefully, you will see that the piece spells out ZBOK (which I think means ‘deviant’ in Polish). The smokey purple puffs are the cherry on this particularly sensational cake.

I told you that Soge has been busy, and this is yet another one of a fine collection painted in the last three weeks or so. You might notice that this one was painted as part of the Poland v Spain paint jam at the end of May, and once again incorporates his little beaver character which looks like it has become an established thing for the artist.

It was a privilege to be able to watch all the artists at work during the paint jam, and I managed to catch up with several of them and introduce myself to some for the first time, including Soge, who was painting next to Hire.

The piece of writing is really classy, and I particularly like the blue line that is coiled around the whole thing. What is also nice is that the beaver isn’t a throw-away gesture at a character, but a very nicely worked little thing that complements the writing without dominating is. A great, nicely balanced piece.

Whilst trying to report back on the big Poland v Spain paint jam on the M32 at the end of May, I am desperately trying to play catch up, because this entire wall has since been re-painted. I am now itching to post the new pieces, but must be patient and diligent. This piece is by Cort (Pad) and was painted next to friend and compatriot Laic217.

Cort is one of the more unusual writers in Bristol, with a very distinctive style. I would say that the closest in style is probably Corupt in that their letter shapes are unconventional. I rather like the spray cap on the right squirting out the letters, this is a common theme used in graffiti writing, often with a little character doing the spraying.

There have been an awful lot of artists making their debuts on Natural Adventures over the past few weeks, which speaks volumes about just how many street/graffiti artists there are out there at the moment. This is a lovely piece of graffiti writing from Dit Oner, and was painted as part of the Poland v Spain paint jam at the end of May.

The piece was painted next to Spanish compatriot Wiflywin  and adopted a similar colour scheme. I think, but cannot be certain that the writing says Dit On, but this is a real problem with reading graffiti writing, if you have something i your head, you can nearly always find it in the writing even it it isn’t there. Does that make sense? I think it is called suggestion. The piece is accomplished and very nicely done and I look forward to more from the artist.
