643. Moon Street (21)

This piece is one from the archives going back to August last year and is by the enigmatic OHMS. I have had a major breakthrough recently in finding out a little more about the artist because I stumbled across his Instagram account @thelocknessmonster.

Now at the very least I will be able to see when he has created something new, and might even be able to work out where it is. I particularly like this piece because it has a marine theme and a rather nice feature lobster.

I get the feeling that OHMS or thelocknessmonster (what should I call him?) is in touch with his natural history side, because so many of his pieces feature wildlife. I do rather like his work.

641. Moon Street (20)

This is a quick one from 45RPM on the long wall in Moon Street, opposite the Lakota. 45RPM has a broad range of pieces that he likes to spray, one of which is his graffiti burners. This is typical of many that can be found dotted around the city.

The colours are vibrant and eye-catching, and sets this piece out alongside other not-quite-so-good pieces.

615. Moon Street (19)

All the time I am becoming aware of graffiti artists in Bristol that I have overlooked, for no reason other than it takes a while to work out who they are and to be able to recognise their style. One such artist that I have recently been enjoying is Whysayit.

I don’t know much about him, other than that he tends to stick with wildstyle writing, but it is a very distinctive and original style that he uses. His pieces pop up all over Bristol and tend to be found on heavily graphitised walls…no clean backgrounds for this artist. The letters spell out Y SAY  (I think), and this is a particularly colourful and happy work. I am enjoying spotting his work more and more.

571. Moon Street (18)

It would appear the Mr Klue has been really busy this winter. I have started to find a whole load of wonderful pieces by him recently, and this one is a real peach. His abstract style is unmistakable, and this one works well with vanishing points and perspective.

This is one of my favourite walls in Bristol, something about the proportions and the isolation. I am hoping to get together with Mr Klue some time soon and get more insight into his work and that of other local artists. Meanwhile I will simply enjoy this piece. Lots to look at, and rather mesmerising.

570. Moon Street (18)

What an unexpected pleasure, not only to find a P0G0 piece in Bristol, not only to find a paste up by P0G0 in Bristol but to find TWO paste ups by P0G0 on the same day in different parts of town. I am indeed a lucky seeker.

The paste up is the same one in each location and both are in street art ‘hotspots’. You will remember the amazing piece by P0G0 from Upfest, which really was one of the highlights of the festival. THe first one I found was in Moon Street.

The second one is in amongst the hoardings on North Street in Bedminster, surrounded by stencil work from John D’oh amongst others. I read on P0G0’s Instagram feed that he had been in town to visit Upfest…I am guessing it migh have had something to do with the launch of the Upfest book. I love it that these artists see every visit, every wall as an opportunity.

545. Moon Street (17)

This is another piece I have been meaning to post for quite a while now, and it has been stacked behind a whole host of other circling photographs. The robot-like character holding the marker pen is by DNT, a Bristol favourite, and frequent sprayer in the Stokes Croft area. However, I don’t know who Marka? is, but the collaboration works nicely.

DNT is, I feel, a much underrated street artist, probably because of the modesty of the places he chooses to spray. A little like Face F1st of PWA his works are often to be found on highly tagged walls, with loads of busy graffiti going on around. It is good when he gets a nice clean wall like this one and produces something as good as this. I like his work very much, and like that he is so very local. Still need to find out more about Marka.

527. Moon Street (16)

This is one of the best walls in Moon Street (Stokes Croat even). It stands out, is a great size, and allows only for one piece at a time, giving the artist space to frame the piece nicely. Mr Klue is, I would suggest, the best abstract street artist in Bristol – instantly recognisable and very easy on the eye.

Mr Klue seems to be comfortable working alone, or working in collaboration with others, and I have many examples of both in this blog. Consistently good, and some of his more recent work is looking very interesting indeed. I just have to get out and find it.

518. Moon Street (15)

Off the beaten track, DinDin left this little treat behind in Moon Street while she was over for Upfest this year. Unfortunately, even though I found the piece quite soon after it was completed, it was already slightly damaged.

I love it nonetheless. It is a swanky, stylish wheatpaste that somehow blends in really well with the brick wall it is pasted to. It is very close to another of her pieces I posted about a little while back. DinDin is my favourite discovery from Upfest this year, and I dearly hope she returns next year. Always welcome.

I don’t know quite why, but I have held on to these pictures for some time now. I think it is because I was worried that I might have already posted them. I have to confess that my blog is becoming a bit of a logistical challenge…dozens of folders and thousands of images…sometimes I lose track.

Forget all about my admin issues because once again Aspire has produced another masterpiece tucked away in a neglected corner of Bristol. I love his work, I have always loved his work, and I suspect I always will love his work. If I am honest, I envy his talent, I wish I could do something like this, but I struggle even to draw the curtains. I must be content with admiring the talent of others.

At risk of getting a bit samey, I simply have to share this exceptional recent piece by Sled One. This time we see one of his wildstyle pieces, where you can make out the letters SLED and the word ONE at the far right.

The colours are absolutely wonderful and in keeping with the season (I’m not sure if this is intentional). The whole piece has a metallic quality to it and is really easy on the eye. This is wildstyle writing at its best.
