I haven’t seen a piece by Eraze for rather a long time, so it was really great to find this one up at Dean Lane recently. The writing spells out ‘dope’ which is a word often seen associated with pieces by Eraze.
What makes this piece stand out is the colour selections on the white backwash – I think it works extremely well and really sets it apart from much of the graffiti art found on this particular wall. Of course it only lasted a few days, so I am pleased I captured it.
Following on directly from the previous post, here is another wonderful piece from the concrete sprawl under the M32. This is by 3Dom from back in September 2016, and you might get a flavour of what he thinks of it from a hashtag he used on his Instagram feed: #skullsareprettyboringafterawhile.
Tucked under the M32 is a well known Bristol wet-weather skate spot which has developed through great DIY work to create ramps, rails, steps etc. A busy place in the Winter. The area lends itself really well to graffiti artists as there is rather a lot of concrete in the form of walls and pillars. This is the first of many posts I will be writing about art in this area.
This is a piece from back in July, and one that was probably overlooked by many. It is by the fabulous Angus and was sprayed at about the same time as his ‘Purple Rain’ tribute to Prince. It would seem that Angus was experimenting with 3D circles/spheres at the time, and I think they work rather well.
This wonderful scene was created back in October by Sled One, in conjunction with a piece by Ments which I wrote about a little while back. It seems that Sled One has an endless energy and talent for conceiving and executing some of the most imaginative street art in Bristol. His style is quite cartoony and injected with humour, and as I have said before, there always seems to be a story going on in his pieces.
I’m not sure what the story is, but it includes one of those really irritating toy clockwork monkeys with clashing cymbals which is beautifully portrayed. In addition, the wisps of steam from the cup of tea are masterfully painted. There is some real quality about this piece. Sled One never seems to disappoint. This is in my view exceptional street art.
‘Seismic’ is becoming a trademark word for Jee See at the moment. There are several versions of this burner popping up in various hot spots around the city. This one, although the photograph doesn’t really convey it, is quite unusual in that the background is in a metallic copper finish and really striking.
I have a feeling that with Jee See being so busy on the streets recently, there will be more of his work appearing in my posts soon.
There are many things I love about photographing street/graffiti art and one of them is that I am constantly discovering new (to me) artists. Although he is well established, I have only recently registered the utterly incredible Ments.

I saw this on Angus’ Instagram feed recently…knew where it was and felt I just had to go and photograph it. This is his ‘Purple Rain’ tribute piece, and a rather beautiful one too. Simple and somewhat experimental I would suggest. I say that because there is another similar work nearby using the same ‘dimple effect’ technique.
When I saw this on Instagram I totally liked it. Now that I have seen it for myself in the flesh, I really totally like it. I am really enjoying Angus’ work at the moment, and given that he seems to be rather prolific, I think I’ll be seeing quite a lot more over the coming weeks and months.
For Prince.
I was away in London earlier this week, starting a new job that requires me to work two days a week in ‘the old smoke’. It is my home city, so I feel quite comfortable being back there, but would never swap it for my life in Bristol now. This, however, is a slight digression.
On Monday night in my soulless hotel room, I was fretting about this amazing new Zase and Dekor piece that they slapped up in Bristol on Saturday (and had posted on Instagram).
The turnover is so high at Dean Lane, I was desperate to get back to Bristol and photograph it before it got tagged or over-painted.
On Wednesday, my first day back in my Bristol Office, I sprinted over to the skate park in my lunch break (I’ve got the return journey down to about 40 minutes) and was rewarded with this remarkable piece. I have always had huge admiration for the Zase-Dekor collaborations that mostly reside in the North of Bristol.
Usually they craft huge works, but this one is much smaller and clearly a bit of fun. Many of the hallmarks are there…the cartoon-style character and wildstyle ZASE, and the wonderful crisp lines and clean finish. A small masterpiece.
