4545. Sparke Evans Park (50)

I had to include this piece by Jody, even though it is only a half-piece, because it is absolutely fantastic. It was painted during the 50th birthday paint jam for Turoe a few weeks ago, which generated some outstanding writing and character pieces. Unfortunately, as I have found out to my cost, you snooze, you lose, and I just didn’t get down to the wall in time to photograph Jody’s portrait in full. The left-hand side had been sliced off (neatly, at least) by a newer piece by Cort.

I feel I ought to know who the character is in this piece, but I don’t. It is remarkable to think that Jody can create something so brilliant in only four hours, and it is humbling to see the amazing work that these artists produce. A half beauty from Jody.

I am not well today and don’t feel particularly inclined to write any posts or do anything, frankly. Then I saw who was up next for today’s posts and felt a little better.

This piece by Andy Council Looks like a beautiful Chinese dragon, and has been painted in muted colours using his stitching style. A pink tongue cleverly joins this piece to the writing next to it, both of which were painted during a paint jam in Sparke Evans Park. The pictures were taken in the evening, and the colours haven’t ‘travelled’ very well.

Visiting artists are always welcome in Bristol, and certainly the city does tend to draw a great many of them, probably due to its well known and mature graffiti sub-culture. Recently we have been graced by the presence of an extraordinary artist, Posea, who visited Bristol from his home in Sheffield.

This piece in Sparke Evans Park was part of a paint jam, I think, for Turoe’s birthday a couple of weeks ago. The character piece is so different from the hand and lighter piece he painted in Dean Lane around the same time, demonstrating the versatility of this amazing artist. Here we see a man in a bear mask, with a crazy duck on top, with a double-barrelled shot gun. All rather sinister, but exquisitely painted and finished. It would be great to see more of his work.

4533. Sparke Evans Park (47)

After a reasonably long absence, Laic217 has treated us with another of his skeleton pieces at Sparke Evans Park. Laic217 is one of those artists whose work I make every effort to photograph and post on Natural Adventures, and I would say that my gallery of his work is probably my most complete gallery of any artist.

This one looks like it is a tribute piece to Holls, and carries several themes that Laic217 uses in his work. The ghetto blaster, the brick wall and the folds of material in the hood and hat, all identify this piece as a Laic217 production. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of a skeleton out spraying. This is another fine piece from Laic217.

4505. Sparke Evans Park (46)

Over the last few years, I have taken a particular liking to Claro_que_sssnoh’s work, more so perhaps than his hugely talented Spanish compatriots, which I ought to remedy if I can. I think that the reason I like his work is that it is pretty unique and stands out  in a way that some other artists can be a little generic.

This piece in Sparke Evans Park carries many of the characteristics that one would expect to see in Claro_que_sssnoh’s work. Long thin lettering that is interconnected or joined-up, with a deep 3D shadow in a contrasting colour, orange-red to the letter’s green. There is a bit of a bonus skeleton character in this piece, which isn’t often seen in his work, and I wonder if it is by him or one of his HMR paint jam friends. This is another fine piece from Claro_que-SSSnoh, and I think that it is high time that I posted a gallery of his work… watch this space.

4479. Sparke Evans Park (45)

Consistency is the name of the game from Todoaciem, whose ‘CIEM’ calligraffiti writing rarely misses the mark. The colours of this piece are in line with the colours selected by his fellow artists at a paint jam in Sparke Evans Park earlier in May.

It is remarkable to think that all of this intricate and beautifully executed work is painted using a spray can. I just don’t know how these guys do it. They are magicians. I am having to rush my posts a little this morning as my daughter and I are jumping on a Porto tram shortly to get to the coast.

4450. Sparke Evans Park (44)

This is my second post of amazing writing from Trafficity. What stands out with his writing is that is comes at you as a large, solid block, with few gaps. The opposite end of the spectrum, I suppose, of thin script writing, both of which are naturally welcome in this blog.

His letters spell out ZIOM (which means GREAT in Polish), and in this piece he has gone for three horizontal colour sections and some nice little details throughout. I have a feeling that there are more letters concealed within the piece, but part of the skill of some writers is in making their work as cryptic as possible, and Trafficity certainly excels in this respect. Some lovely work here.

4420. Spark Evans Park (43)

It would seem that Mena and Stivs have birthdays about a week apart, and both, being popular artists, manage to rustle up a large group of artists for a birthday paintjam. These pieces were part of Mena’s celebrations.

A double hit in today’s post featuring both Phour and Mena. I haven’t posted much from Phour for a while, but lately he has been painting;g quite a lot, and this is a really nice example of his work, painted high up on the wall, with three horizontal colour fades, and some rather more animated letters than we might normally see from him.

I say the other writing is by Mena, which I think it is, but when it is someone’s birthday, their name is often the subject of other artist’s writing, so you can be tricked easily. Whoever it is by, it is nicely worked, with an interesting ‘fruit salad’ colour scheme, if you know what I mean. Happy belated Birthday.

Mena is obviously a popular lady, and the turnout for her birthday paint jam was exceptional. This contribution from Stivs is an absolute beauty and a fitting tribute to Mena. The writing that spells out Menas is in his wonderful calligraffiti style and this one in particular really stands out.

The colour selection is nothing short of brilliant and possibly quite brave, where the letters, picked out in orange, pink and purple Are complemented by the turquoise surround. Stivs has picked out the 3D shading perfectly with a ‘suggestion’ of colour and stripes. Overall a superbly crafted high-quality piece of writing.

Another fabulous Pekoe portrait in a series of recent pieces that it has been a pleasure to witness in recent weeks. This one was painted alongside her RBF friends in Sparke Evans Park a couple of weeks ago.

There is something very special about the colours that Pekoe uses and the blue and pink in this piece are absolutely perfect. There is enough shading on the face to give some depth to the features, and we can sense a sad expression, which the tears reinforce. The big hair is magnificent, but again alludes to sadness with some unhappy faces in place of smiley ones. The crown is well deserved and appropriate. A fine piece from Pekoe.
