I rarely venture along the Bristol to Bath cycle path to the BB Gallery, because turnover tends to be very slow there, but I was pleased to find this collaboration from Mote and Mr Crawls on my last visit there.

It would seem that the collaborative pair are spending some time focussing on their own pieces at the moment, and that the joint pieces have dropped off over the winter. On the left is a fine monster character with all the trademark doodles and markings we would expect from Mote. To the right, Mr Crawls has painted one of his monster characters wearing a hat, the style of which first appeared on the streets about a year ago now. Nice work from the pair.

I don’t often trek along to the Bristol to Bath cycle path gallery, maybe only twice a year, but recently was rewarded for a visit with this magnificent piece by Creamylines. It is no secret that I am a big fan of the artist and love his ‘stained-glass’ landscapes.

This work is wider than most of his pieces and there is a lot more going on, with many little figures, eyes and birds to find. In addition, he has included a green character grinning in the top right. Of course, the central focus is on the sun and sky at the top end of the landscape. There is something tranquil about the piece. Bravo.

I don’t often visit the BB Gallery (Bristol to Bath cycle path), mainly because the turnover there is fairly slow, and it is a bit of a death trap, especially while walking the dog. The bicycles, e-scooters and e-bikes, whizz along this stretch of the cycle path, making navigation more like running the gauntlet. It is only a matter of time before there are some serious accidents. (Sounding like the old man I am becoming).

What a thrill to find this small piece by one of my favourite Bristol artists and all round nice guy Object…. The curious imaginary beast is all eyes and fingers, creating a rather grotesque image which is somewhat softened by the speech bubble and the words: “Nah, this has gone all wrong, where’s my rubber gone…”. I love the way this has been painted on an old piece of scrap wood and screwed onto the posts as a contribution to this free outdoor gallery. Utterly unusual (unless you are Object…), slightly disturbing and understatedly brilliant. A classic piece.

I can’t believe that this is only the fourth post from this charming spot on the Bristol to Bath cycle path. A place which showcases original art by people of all ages and abilities for the benefit of the local community… an urban treasure trove for those who like to explore and discover.

I have featured several pieces by Creamylines this year, but this is a mini version of his imaginative creations, probably created with Posca pens or something similar, rather than spray cans. There is an element of hope and optimism in Creamylines’ work that offers something of an antidote to the constant onslaught of bad news, and I applaud him for it. There is also an ecclesiastical feel to his work, probably associations with the sun and its rays and the stained-glass appearance. Nice to see this one in this open-air free gallery.

The Bristol to Bath cycle path gallery is one of those quirky things that Bristol is so good at. Creativity and generosity of spirit with a smattering of rebellion and a local community have attached original artwork to a short stretch of wall for all to enjoy. There are also one or two bare patches of wall which have been painted by local street artists, including this recent piece from Conrico.

The only problem with this spot is the speed at which the bicycles and scooters whiz past – I have to be extra careful photographing and keeping the dog safe. Conrico has painted a fabulous scene with a tiger dancing with/chasing a cat in a woodland scene. He includes his name in nicely crafted orange letters. His style remains utterly unique in Bristol, with a paintbrush feel to it. Nice one from Conrico.

 

 

4395. BB Gallery (2)

As I mentioned in a post a couple of weeks ago, I have only recently discovered the delights of the Bristol to Bath cycle path gallery, and so many of the pieces that I photographed had been there for some time. This introduction is a preamble designed to explain why I am posting a beautiful piece by Rozalita that is obviously quite old because it features a clown, a subject or theme that she has moved away from in recent months.

This piece has been sprayed on boards that have been attached to a fence, giving it a bit of  a makeshift appearance. The face and neck ruffle are very nicely done, and the whole portrait is bursting with colour. I’m not sure exactly when this piece was painted, but she has visibly made great progress since then. I am a big fan of her work, and I am so pleased I eventually found this one, with a little help from Paul H.

A serendipitous meeting with Paul H at Greenbank on my last visit there afforded him the opportunity to show me a spot I hadn’t been aware of before, and something a little different from the usual kind of graffiti/street art spots in Bristol. Greenbank is on the Bristol to Bath cycle path, and a short walk in the direction of Bath takes you to the Bristol to Bath gallery.

The gallery is a wall and fence, about twenty metres in length, which is festooned with pieces of art on paper, boards, canvass or in frames, all attached to the fence – a truly public gallery that anyone can contribute to. This particular section has been painted by Conrico, and would appear to have been quite a challenge to paint, given the different textures and materials. The scene is a very typically Conrico piece, with plenty of atmosphere and a style that looks more like paint brush strokes rather than spray can work. Some nice writing accompanies the portrait.
