Cabinet reshuffle (profanity warning)

May reshuffles her

pack and learns it’s difficult

  • The last political one for a while…I need to get back to nature and the environment and love and things like that.

The 48 per cent

I’m sick of hearing

it’s the will of the people.

It is not my will.

by Scooj

  • Every time I hear the Government trot out the words that the Brexit is the will of the British people, they are excluding the 48% who voted to remain. Are we not British people? This lot will never carry me with them as long as they use this bullying kind of coercive language.

Winter happens, right?

Snow came and we saw;

a national obsession

sated. Now the floods.

by Scooj

Is it me, or has winter recently become a highly unusual event? We have four seasons, and although climate change is mixing things up a bit, we do still have those four seasons. The news coverage about our weather has become almost non-stop and utterly over the top.

This is a narrative led by successive governments that are reputation driven and risk averse. A millimeter of snow in Bristol is news? This focus and emphasis reminds me of the worst kind of distraction agenda-setting. Our nation is on its knees, EU Exit (formerly known as Brexit) is in a horrendous muddle, Trump, NHS, homelessness, public sector dismantling. Things are not going well in the UK, so let’s talk about the weather, it’s something we can all rally round…isn’t it?

OK I’m done now.

Fingers crossed

419. North Street hoarding (5)

This little alcove, created by the side of a shop on one side and a hoarding on the other is a favourite haunt of John D’oh’s. Hardly a week goes by without a new stencil from this productive agent provocateur appearing in the immediate area.

His works are often political, and here we have a statement about homelessness which frankly is difficult to disagree with. The expression of this issue through graffiti art is surely representative of a general groundswell of opinion that things just aren’t great at the moment for those who drop under the radar of our bullish Government. Casualties…collateral damage of ‘Britain being open for business’. Shame.

Still angry and ashamed at the way British politics is playing out. See this haiku I wrote on the subject almost a year ago.

self-inflicted wound.

by Scooj

Unlike the 51.8% in the UK today, I feel a huge sense of loss. The tolerant, stable and inclusive world my children have grown up in is under real threat. I dearly hope they will be a part of ensuring we continue to embrace our European neighbours in the years to come.
