Laic217 has awoken from a little bit of a winter slumber, and what a joy it is to see his work appearing on the streets again. I must have found this one pretty quickly after he had painted it, because I hadn’t seen it on any social media when I stumbled across it.

This piece demonstrates the impact of colours against greyscale. We see one of Laic217’s skeleton characters complete with textured clothes, a neck chain and baseball cap all painted in black, greys and white. The portrait piece is brought alive with the addition of rainbow colours on the character’s lightweight sunglasses, changing the whole dynamic of the piece – imagine how it would look without the splash of colour. Clever work from Laic217.

Not so long ago, some nasty people set fire to a car under this small subway. Now it might be my age, but I just don’t understand why people do this kind of thing – life is hard enough without mindless idiots making things more unpleasant for everyone around them. In spite of this, almost phoenix-like, Risco, known for his epic work,  has crafted one of his skeletal pieces, using the sooty residue from the fire as his background.

The snake skeleton sits on top of a Claro_que_sssnoh piece and Haka piece, and gives them a second life after the fire. It is interesting to note that precious little tidy up has been done by Bristol City Council, apart from removal of the car, and it is the graffiti artists who have immediately moved in and brightened things up. You can be certain that a burnt out car and any damage caused in a more well-heeled area of Bristol would have been cleaned up immediately.

The paradox is that the Council are furiously buffing well known and much loved graffiti walls grey, in their war against ‘antisocial behaviour’, but they haven’t cleaned and painted the walls of this underpass which has been the site of far more serious anti-social behaviour, in my view. Double standards, appealing to the affluent and Pius communities in the City.

I really haven’t seen enough from these two of late. I guess that both of them are pretty busy with real life, and that happens, but it means that the class they both bring to the streets of Bristol is missed. This collaboration from 3Dom and Sepr also included the beautiful FOIS writing from Kleiner Shames (already posted).

On the left is a superb example of 3Dom’s superb writing style, including an eye character that looks to have dropped from the sky. There is a fluidity and confidence that oozes from 3Dom’s work, and just by looking at it, you can tell that it has been crafted by a master at the top of his game.

Sepr brings with his some of the best character work in the city/country. His unique style is instantly recognisable and more often than not humorous. In this piece, a skeleton is out walking his skeleton dog, who has run off, pulling his forearm away with him. Great fun. A measure of the quality of this piece is the care and attention given to the bead lead, which in close-up is meticulously painted. What a great collaborative wall, well worth a look.

The waits seem to get longer between finding new Laic217 pieces, which is a real pity. I can only hope that the reason behind his slow down in street activity is that he has other great things going on in his life. It is not uncommon for street artists to go through peaks and troughs in activity, and that is all part of the game.

This is Laic217 at his classic best, a skeleton holding a spray can, wearing a puffer jacket over a hoodie. There is tons of shape and texture in his work, especially on the clothes. Seeing this piece reminds me just how good he is and how much I miss his work.

As part of a collaborative wall, this is something rather different from Kosc, but the high quality of the piece is there for all to see. Taking a break from his writing, which he seems to have been enjoying of late, Kosc has created this amazing rat skeleton character.

There is more than a little menace about this rat, brought about by its posture and open mouth. You can tell that Kosc enjoys the anatomy of the creature and clearly has a good understanding of skeletal structure. There is some complementary artwork from Saor, whose part in this collaborative wall was just to the left, that cuts through the rat’s tail. Fabulous artwork from Kosc.

This morning I bring you your regular dose of Laic217 and this fiery piece on the Bristol to Bath cycle path. The days of this spot are numbered, as the housing development completes, sections of hoarding will be removed and replaced with flimsy iron railings… arguably more in keeping with the housing, but I will mourn the loss of this fantastic graffiti spot.

As ever, this piece contains many of the key attributes we would expect to see in a Laic217 piece; a skeleton beautifully painted fabric, a touch of menace, a chain, a hat and fire. Always a pleasure seeing one of his pieces.

The latest array of billboard pieces in Elton Street have been outstanding, and this special ‘outdoor gallery’ just seems to be getting better and better. The colour scheme has been replicated across all the pieces, and this one from Sled One is an absolute banger.

Sled One has created an apocalyptic scene in which a skeleton is bearing a canister on his back with some soil and a small plant. The canister is actually a spray can, and presumably Sled One is making a link between the life giving qualities of the natural environment and of spray-painting. The character is set in a scorched earth surrounding. Sled One’s paint work is absolutely outstanding and this is a really classy piece.

4610. Dean Lane skate park (513)

I am not the biggest fan of this bit of wall. There is no easy way of photographing it without a wide-angle lens or similar capability, so you are getting it fence and all, to see what it really looks like, rather than a sanitised version, although I have tried that too.

There is little need for me to say much about Laic217, the artist, as I have said pretty much everything I can in the past. This is another skeletal offering, which although not to everyone’s taste, has artistry that can still be admired. He is doing a lot of greyscale work these days which is not easy, but he manages to generate great depth in his pieces with light and shade and folds etc. This is yet another fine piece in a long series of outstanding work from this excellent artist.

4533. Sparke Evans Park (47)

After a reasonably long absence, Laic217 has treated us with another of his skeleton pieces at Sparke Evans Park. Laic217 is one of those artists whose work I make every effort to photograph and post on Natural Adventures, and I would say that my gallery of his work is probably my most complete gallery of any artist.

Laic217, Spake Evans Park, Bristol, June 2022
Laic217, Spake Evans Park, Bristol, June 2022

This one looks like it is a tribute piece to Holls, and carries several themes that Laic217 uses in his work. The ghetto blaster, the brick wall and the folds of material in the hood and hat, all identify this piece as a Laic217 production. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of a skeleton out spraying. This is another fine piece from Laic217.

4354. M32 roundabout J3 (402)

Over the last month or so, Laic217 has produced four wonderful pieces, three of them linked to support for Ukraine and this one, reverting slightly back to the territory we are used to seeing from the artist.

Laic217, M32 roundabout, Brisol, March 2022
Laic217, M32 roundabout, Brisol, March 2022

The backdrop of multiple colours layered horizontally, almost looks like paint brush work, and is quite crude. There is nothing crude about his greyscale skeleton character, however, picked out with a fine white border. There is threat and misery in this piece, all part of Laic217’s narrative and fascination with decay and distortion.
