2585. Leonard Lane (22)

So you’ll all know all about this one… . It is hardly worth me writing very much about Nevergiveup and his bunny rabbits, because they have featured so many times on Natural Adventures before, and there are still plenty more in my archive warren to keep me going for a while.

This particular beauty is lurking in a doorway of the wonderfully ‘colourful’ Leonard Lane – a fascinating alleyway that marks thwe ancient boundary where the city wall used to be. You won’t have to wait too long before I uncover some more rabbits.

2584. M32 Spot (53)

What a refreshingly different kind of collaboration this is down at the M32 Spot. Logoe and Haka have got together to produce this quirky and beautifully executed joint effort. On the left there is some really superior writing spelling out LOGOE in an attractive font style and with a great deep white shading to give it depth. I don’t have many pictures of Logoe’s work, but what I have seen I like.

On the right is a cartoon character ‘Lucky Luke’ – remember him? I never really got into Lucky Luke as a kid, I was always an Asterix and Tintin man myself. This Lucky Luke appears to be smoking a little Boris Johnson (or is it a Trump? it is difficult to separate the two these days), with the words ‘sit back and enjoy a fat one’. All good fun and nicely painted.

2583. Redland Station

There isn’t much street art to speak of in Redland (where I live) so it is extra good to have found this bright and cheery piece under Lover’s Lane bridge at the end of the platform at Redland Station. This is a very nice collaboration between Zoe Power and Dave Bain.

Now Zoe Power I know all about and I love her mural works that are dotted about Bristol. Dave Bain however, I know absolutely nothing about and I haven’t heard of him berfore. Together though they have produced something that is truly collaborative and it is difficult to know where one artist ends and the other begins. If I might say so, this is very representative of the Redland area… safe, clean and decent. My favourite bit is the skateboarder’s hair – a real Zoe Power signature.

2582. M32 Cycle path (40)

What a magnificent chrome beast this is on the M32 cycle path by Slakarts. The light coloured accents on the nose and cheeks and on the eyebrows and hair help to bring much more depth to the piece.

This is probably my favourite Slakarts piece thus far, and it is typical of his stylised faces, and that it is cut off at the top and bottom matters not. I am pretty certain that I have more of his work slopping around somewhere in my archives, so I will try to dig it out. Nice piece.

2581. St Werburghs tunnel (110)

Yes, Fiva/Fiver has been at it again in St Werburghs Tunnel (goddam the light), with a piece full of Autumn promise. Copper tomnes and leaves leave us in no doubt about the time of year this one was created.

Fiva is up to his usual creative deceptions of superimposing one style of writing over or into another. In this brilliant example a brick Fiver is covered over by a Fiver made of rather untidy wooden planks. The whole thing works really well and shows off his imaginative talent. Looking forward to more.

2580. Welshback

Somewhere along Welshback, I don’t recall exactly where is another inspirational quote from #DFTE framed and attached high onto the wall of a building. The uplifiting sentence reads:

Be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people – #DFTE

A sentiment it is difficult to argue against.

I like to think that #DFTE is our social conscience and guide and nudges us to become a slightly more caring and compassionate society than we are. I can’t imaging something like this hanging on the wall in the Tory party HQ, rather it would be ‘Make Britain great again…’ blah blah blah. Keep it up #DFTE – more goodness in the world is needed.

2579. St Werburghs tunnel (109)

This lovely sprite-like face by Face 1st has been at the entrance to St Werburghs tunnel for a little while now, but remained completely untouched, which is as it should be. There is a seasonal feel to the piece with bronze-coloured leaves for hair.

All of Face 1st’s work is really good at the moment, in fact it has been for a few years now and the artist is showing his versatility by adapting his style iteratively from piece to piece. For its simplicity and beauty this is opne of my recent favourites.

2578. Cheltenham 2019 (23)

Kedals is an artist whose work I have come across a couple of times in Bristol but only in the format of wheatpastes, so it was something of a surprise and indeed a great pleasure to see this painted wall in the Honeybourne Line tunnel at this year’s Cheltenham Paint Festival.

Kedals, Paint Festival 2019, Cheltenham, September 2019

What is amazing is that the style he has adopted here is exactly the same as the one he presents on his wheatpastes. Pulling together elements from the great cartoon/comic genre Kedals has kind of stuck to the brief for the Festival theme which was to incorporate books in some way – Kedals has written  ‘comics are books too’ by way of explanation.

Kedals, Paint Festival 2019, Cheltenham, September 2019

I’m not sure what story the piece is trying to tell, but Kedals has cleverly incorporated the word ‘Knowledge’ across the top of the piece. I don’t know either, who the two faces belong to (they look like the Krays to me), but typical of his style, he has painted them twice as freehand duplicates, which is what he does with his wheatpastes. All in all I was really pleased to see this fine piece.

2577. Cheltenham 2019 (22)

Nol is a big personality who paints big personalities. His cartoon characters are always beautifully sprayed with crisp and clean lines and so full of charm (even the monsters). His fills are so solid, never anything coming through underneath, no cheating on the paint from Nol.

I have met Nol on a couple of occasions and he is a hunter with Street Art Cities, like me. I think he is a bit of a festival-goer, because I have only ever seen his work at festivals and don’t recall seeing anything randomly placed in Bristol, although he is from Holland, so I guess festivals are his way of putting himself about a bit. I like the message on this one ‘Be excellent to each other’. Always cool cartoon pieces perfectly turned-out.
